I'm trying to keep the new car clean and so i'm looking at getting a Thule roof box for my sails and booms, the mast may be an issue.
Being able to lock stuff away is a bonus to.

Anybody use a roof box and is it worth it?

Cheers

Not personally but I have sailed with a guy who put his sails and booms into one and he rated it. I guess possible issues could be:

Hot days with you kit locked up in a tiny box getting nuked.
Stress on your roof
Drag on the highway = fuel consumption
Fitting it in your garage - depending on height of the car
Cost

If your mast is a 2 piece, you could clamp a length of PVC pipe to the roof rack alongside your thule box.
Much like you see on telstra vans and on some tradies vehicles for carrying plumbing pipes and stuff.
Glue a fixed cap on the front of the pipe- and fit a screw on cap at the back with some sort of simple lock fitted to it.
The only difference for a single piece mast is that it would need a longer pipe.

They wont look terribly pretty- but will make carrying masts around a lot easier.
