I'm aware that many Queenslanders seem to have a special set of road rules just for themselves, and I regularly experience roundabout "near misses", particularly by people who are convinced that they can turn right from the left hand lane at any dual lane roundabout (except for ones signed otherwise with arrows).
If you are one of these people, here are a few videos for you to watch http://hereforlife.qld.gov.au/Campaigns-Road-rules/Roundabouts
Cheers ![]()
not many people seem to know the roundabout rules, even some cops, i have had some near misses out here on the redcliffe peninsula, there are usually two lanes coming into and sometimes only one lane exiting it, there are arrows indicating left turn only into roundabout in the left lane and straight through or right turrn out from the right lane, there are no lanes marked on the roundabout, on numerous occasions the car to the left of me which should only be turning left goes straight through along side me and we both try to claim the one lane out the other side and i'm sorry to say its mostly elderly drivers, maybe they don't see the road markings![]()
One of the rules many people reserve for themselves is " If I am driving a Land Cruiser (or similar) and I charge the round about at 80 kmh, I obviously have right of way."
Dare anybody who wants to live, contest that rule???
The first rule of roundabout use as explained first up in the video is not understood by most people, that being "Give way to any traffic on the roundabout." sic, be it to the right OR LEFT of you.
Many is the time I have had my vehicle three quarters of the way into the roundabout and another car from my right drives in front of me. WTF????
a year or so back a 18 y/old girl drove at high speed[in a police-chase] through a round-about in Vic.Park Perth.....travelling the WRONG WAY.
she hit head-on a Asian family travelling in a very small car.
an 11 year boy died later i believe, others were seriously injured.
the girl who caused the accident[she was relatively unharmed] got out of her car and hid in the bush.
i would put her away for minimum 40 years,no parole.
