I wonder if there is any report of
-Kitesurfer
-Windsurfer
-Sailing boat crew
affected (killed) by lighting ?

I had my minutes of glory today after almost whole windless day -when I did jump on the board and 5 minutes ride under black cloud and lighting striking around.

25 knots only but worth it (the risk) ?

Windsurfers have been killed by lightning strikes. Its not worth the risk.

Ive seen the mast of a Boat get struck on the swan river.
Lucky no one was on the harness because it blew the stays completely of the mast

Not a good idea with a carbon mast.

Have come in from w/surfing during an electrical storm...scary. Years ago a mate & I were fishing in my boat on a calm/overcast day. We could hear this loud buzzing sound, looked everywhere & it turned out that it was our fishing rods/lines. At one stage I looked over at my mate & his hair was standing straight up, so we decided to drop the aerial & rods down, sat on the floor & waited for a while until it passed.

In an old seppo windsurf mag a guy's rig got hit by lightning. Blew him into the water and he got rescued by his buddies. One leg numb and couldnt swim. His mast and sail burst into flames and the strike left a huge carbon deposit about a foot in diameter on his board.
