I got into trouble today at Raffs windsurfing. My board detached from my mast & I was left clutching onto my rig as I watched my board drift off with the swell towards Ocean Grove SLSC. After about 20minutes of drifting & trying to wave down my mate, i was spotted by a kite surfer who stopped & dragged me back to shore. By the time I walked back to my car & (luckily)found my board washed up near the Og SLSC, and drove back to find the guy who dragged me out, he was gone. Would love to find the guy & thank him properly. He was dark haired sailed with a Red & white kite.
Let me know if anyone knows who he is.
Polar.
Kiters are like Superheroes of the Sea. Once they have done their good deed they disappear without a trace. This is part of our nature.
I have to agree with Dorothyinse that kiters will always help someone in distress although I do believe that if you were out on the water and someone needed help or rescuing that you would offer the same assistance, right?
Rescuing done with a kite does make it a tad easier though and this is why we all go out of our way to help fellow kiters and water users alike - In a way this helps to promote kiting too as there does seem to be a bad stigma attached to kiteboarding being identified as a dangerous sport and not safe for other beach users and bathers hence why spots are being closed to kiteboarding.
3x Cheers to the guy that rescued you!!![]()
