A surf ski paddler has been attacked by a shark off Perth, with reports of another great white shark incident south of the city, according to Fisheries officers.

No-one was injured when a shark reportedly went through the middle of a group of surf skiers off Perth's northern Mullalloo Beach at about 7.15am on Wednesday, but one of the skis was bitten, according to the West Australian Fisheries Department.

The group was from the Mullalloo Surf Life Saving Club, and the beach has been closed until further notice.

In the second incident just south of the city, a fisherman reported a great white shark had attacked a crab pot off Saxon Reef in Warnbro Sound at 8am.

It was a simple case of 'mistaken identity'.
The shark thought it was a group of SUPs.

Far out! - a mate and I surf there all the time in winter...

And yes I know they are everywhere...

Must admit I have given it a miss on certain grey mid week days when no one else is out - even when it has looked good... just felt uncomfortable with no one else out/around to assist in the event of an incident... luckily this bloke had others around.

No need for a coffee after that - you're heart would already be pumping!!

I got that bit chatting with local fisheries officer. But will try and find it online. Its all part of the tagging program that's being going on. They believed the reason its so frequented is that Ocean reef is a deep water entrance from offshore so it seems a bit of a highway. Something that is not lost on me when ever i surf up this way.

"It appears the shark was coming from behind and has taken a bite at the end of the ski," he said.

"Certainly the force has thrown him out of the ski."

He then promptly **** himself.

I just changed my leg rope to a coiled one on my xxx because i always felt like the old one towing looked a little like a lure

had a mate tell me yesterday that they were doing step offs at the Pin last week when a terrible beastie launched full body out of water, it had a large fish in its mouth , that they could see, only 60 -80 meteres away.

Interesting graph about the "increase of shark attacks" ...

Looks like 1930-39 was the time to be "scared" of fish in the sea.

Less than 5 fatalities/year Australia wide, meanwhile AU population grown from 4 million to 25 million...
