Hi all,
Just looking for a 'rule of thumb' data rate for Skype video chat...
Our daughter is off to the US for a 6 month exchange - and we want to use Skype to keep in touch, but not sure of the data usage. I did a test today, but it hasn't shown up on my ISP usage report... so Googled and got a whole lot of conflicting numbers...
We're not too worried about ours internet cap - but not sure about the host family's plan - as they are rural.
Thanks
Interestingly we ran out of our Telstra quota the other month. "Throttled" is not the terminology to use as it became completely unusable. My first modem was 28k, this was much worse.
However, Skype worked just fine.
Hi evlPanda,
No - we're with iiNet; whose usage report is usually pretty accurate - but I think that it is broken atm, as I now notice it is reporting 'no usage' for the last three days...
iiNet throttle 'over used' plans back to 256k (used to be 64k).
The US host family is (very) rural Idaho - so not sure if they even have ADSL...
Thanks for the reply.
