If anyone in this forum feels falsely accused by anything I have written you have my most sincere apologies . If you could put your perceived villification(s) in point form I wll address them at my earliest convenience..
The leaseholders of Quobba have a larger problem with feral goats at Red Bluff than Gnaraloo
. Goats naturally gravitate to cliffs and escarpments which the management team is finding it impossible to do a complete muster. As Red Bluff is a designated special tourism lease , surely the leasee has a responsibility and duty of care toward the flora and fauna in this 50 hectare special lease. Running 30 to 40 goats on 50 hectares of special tourism lease is extremely poor rangeland management . Smack in the middle of a World Heritage listed Marime Park.
The Setting: A Scottish old timer in Scotland, in a bar, talking
to a young man.
Old Man: "Lad, look out there to the field. Do ya see that
fence? Look how well it's built. I built that fence stone by
stone with me own two hands. I piled it for months. But do they
call me McGreggor-the-Fence-Builder?"
"Nooo.."
Then the old man gestured at the bar. "Look here at the bar. Do
ya see how smooth and just it is? I planed that surface down by me
own achin' back. I carved that wood with me own hard labor, for
eight days. But do they call me McGreggor-the-Bar-builder?"
"Nooo..."
Then the old man points out the window. "Eh, Laddy, look out to
sea. Do ya see that pier that stretches out as far as the eye can
see? I built that pier with the sweat off me back. I nailed it
board by board. But do they call me McGreggor-the-Pier-Builder?"
"Nooo..."
Then the old man looks around nervously, trying to make sure no
one is paying attention. "But ya screw one goat... "
Unfortunately, I think you don't grasp the situation fully.
The Feral goats are everywhere not just Gnaraloo or Quobba but are also much further North and south and go as afar inland as Meekathara (if not further), I know about Meeka as my brother lives out there and shoots them for his dog's food.
Unfortunately a 5 line barbed wire fence is not enough to keep them out as they are clever sneaky beggars, fencing which can keep them out is not a viable option on any farm or station.
The trucks you saw at Gnaraloo were part of the Feral goat removal programme being run at the station, and yes they sell them so as to re-coop some of the costs of having to muster them, if you had have also done a bit more research you would have found that they also get some assistance from the government to assist with the cost of the removal.
Mustering goats on a property the size of the Gnaraloo is not a simple task and would involve quite a few people and vehicles
With a bit more research you would also find that as well as reducing feral goat numbers they are also reducing sheep numbers out there.
Now I can't talk for the rest of the crew who have been slipping the slipper in after your rants, but knowing the majority of them I would say they would have checked a fair bit of this out before hand.
It was also very obvious that you have your nose out of joint with the management of the Gnaraloo station which most likely as a result of the Wetsuit indecent which you posted as the real trigger for your animosity and trying to drag them through them mud. It wouldn't be surprising to find that you were one of the people who had his wetsuit removed.
A simple search found that there is no vehicle access to the beaches at the Gnaraloo station, even if the "GUN surfers" are trying to avoid the Gnaralooser crowd.
Another simple search found that Gnaraloo station is quite involved in the turtle conservation programme for the region.
Caped crusader I don't think so![]()
Pratt with a vendetta? more likely
Is there someway the Mods can make the posts from a particular person appear in "wingding" font, just so they look as silly as the read!
Just think its wrong to persecute bad name the lease holders and name them "theifs" thats a bit unfair and i think its unrelated to your other topic.
Yes you have a valid point about goats there is no criticism about that Its how you inform and address the general public about the problem.
I acknowledge the problem of vermin namely Goats .Yes you are correct they are a pest
To be honest if we look at the history of early Australian settlement Alot of early founders were dropped of in wooden boats.
These early settlers brought goats and other animals into the country to provide a community in a new land never ever before explored.
If we go back the goat was introduced to support human colony growth in a remote areas.
Back in the 18th century when settlers were dropped off with animals. the goats were a source of produce of food/namely/milk to assist humans settle here. Now like many introduced species they run ramped. I understand your point as this is a introduced species that is out of control.
There is a solution and a government department dedicated to addressing the "goat issue" and many other vermin issues.
There is certainly no short term solution to address this issue. The answer is certainly not blaming current lease holders etc for a problem that was started 200 years ago.
If you feel strongly about this Issue contact the department of environmental protection and send your concerns to them. But they are already aware of the issue.
This thread lacks anything new to the pathetic argument on the other thread.. and it doesn't even have the surfing llama! (GOLD BTW
)
What would the Fonz say?
"Eyyyy... anti gravity TOGTFO!"
A few years ago on a trip to Gnaraloo someone I know was very naughty and did a few things up there that upset the Station Owner to the point of being threatened to get kicked out and banned.
Old mate got a cold carton of beer and some tasty treats and went to the the homestead and apologised. He explained he wasn't aware of all the rules and didn't intend to upset anyone. Owner accepted the apology and all was good.
Just a thought ![]()
And on that note, I think this topic has run it's course...
These forums are here to create a meeting place for people who care about our sports. We want to improve, we want to know how to fix gear, how to use the gear, the best conditions, where those conditions are, what gear works best where .. and of course, we all want to meet people with similar interests.
In this environment, people are friendly and helpful to each other. We all stand on each others shoulders to reach higher, achieve more and have more fun.
Our sport is our recreation. It's what we do for fun - it's not about getting all serious and upset, there's enough of that in the stuff we do for money.
