I so wanted to believe that Lance was clean. But when Hodgie said he was on the juice, I could see it all fall apart. And now Stuart has also said he took EPO. What about Neilo? The humble Aussie domestique riders of the 90's were legendary for their hard work & loyalty, and they were rewarded with the occasional stage win. Phil? Mmmhhh... HGH perhaps - Look at that chin.

And what about the other champs. No-one could touch Indurain in the early to mid 90's. He won 5 tours in a row - a first, and suddenly he folded one day to a "has been" Danish rider.

So who else was on the juice..??

The eighties and nineties are a sad indictment for many of our sports. I was disapointed to find out the truth about Stui, but on reflection that was just how it was in those days. Should be just a matter of time to hear about the Spanish rider Indurian....no doubt given that for him to perform at that level against all the others who were taking drugs, would have to have been impossible or that he is a complete freak of un-nature (and given that these freaks have been proven to be nothing more than humans wanting to cheat) then lets see what time shows.

Winners of the tour will continue to be questioned about their outstanding performance - Froome included for many years onward given the intensity and depth of the cheating that has gone on.

As it turned out all but two were on the juice - including C.Lewis.
Still reckon it was one of the best sorting events I've seen.
The look on Johnson's face and his raised hand with one finger in the air was amazing, specially as he knew he had beaten C.Lewis who was also on the juice.
Johnson was a drug cheat like the others but his biggest problem was that he was not as smart as the rest of the and didn't get his masking agent correct
Drugs in sport is like white collar crime - it will never be stamped out.

Seriously - how do I get onto the juice?

Go for a 3 day XC skiing trip, lugging a 22kg pack. Home at 1am and need to get the 7am train to work...

Rock-climbing multi-pitch in the upper Blueys on Saturday, sea-kayaking Botany Bay to Sydney Harbour Sunday, prior to 80km drive home.

etc...

I don't give a stuff for competition, I just need to recover faster or ward off forearm cramps. Bit tired of whole-body malaise, but don't want life to pass me by.

Me thinks you are asking the wrong question, who was not on the juice is the real question?
Probably easier to answer though just put a line through the first 50 place getters and you would have a better idea.

might have a shorter answer if you ask what sport has not used drugs

I think that it is kind of obvious someone is cheating when that person is dominating all others in a sport where physical power and endurance is involved.

You have to assume that everybody competing at the top level are highly trained, talented, professional athletes so it's a bit of a stretch to believe one person can dominate by just training harder or smarter than everybody else.

It obviously applies to Lance Armstrong and probably applies to Froome and Cavendish.

I'm guessing Evans is clean because he has always struggled to beat his opponents (and whinged loudly when they beat him under dubious circumstances).

I'm not sure if it applies to guys like Kelly Slater or Bjorn Dunkerbeck or Robbie Naish in their hey days. Their sports are defined more by skill than pure athletic ability.

Also not sure about Aaron Hadlow. He beats everybody all the time but the others give him a run for their money every time. It's possible that he could get an endurance edge through drugs that would enable him to out last his opposition.

Greg Lemond.

Clean, with a biological passport to prove it.

The guy retired, thinking he had a rare blood disorder (from buck shot lead poisoning), preventing peak performance. The irony of it all.

I suspected him of HGH.

But maybe I'm just jaded & cynical

He didn't have the long face of Hodge, Stephens or Anderson.

But who knows.... that's the problem. Between drugs and gambolling, sport is all a bit of a joke now. I can't be bothered making the time too watch any more.

The moral of the story..... study hard kids.

Go to a special men's clinic and ask for testosterone replacement therapy.

It appears to be a fact that the sporting world is full of cheats. Leader boards would be vastly different if there were no 'juices' and 'pills' available. Guilt and fair play cannot be components of a sportsman's psyche nowadays. But its not just sport is it?. Look at the movies, actors need to get ripped and big to play the part. Hercules wouldn't be Hercules if he wasn't.

I don't see any real issue with these athletes taking performance enhancing drugs. They live a completely unnatural lifestyle anyway, training all the time. Often their bodies are broken in later life due to the stresses they put on themselves through training. So unless you dedicate your life to the sport you will not make it. The drug rules are so arbitrary with coaches and sports scientists trying to work out ways to bend the rules while not breaking them.

Its similar to the professional - amateur sports debate that raged for about 100 years. People bent the rules so certain athletes could stay amateur while training full time. So eventually the whole charade was closed for many sports that were previously amateur only.

Considering Indurain has stated in interviews that he believes it is impossible to win a grand tour without doping, I would have thought that was a no brainer?

I have never understood how in footy they give them a jab of pain killer.

Now how is this not performance enhancing.

Without it they cannot take the field but can with a jab.

From what I gather by then end of the season not many players arent getting a jab or two.

Look what happened to Clem Michael as a result of a jab and going back on the field for Dockers

After first indicating that legal action could be raised in 2002,[2] Michael filed an action against the Fremantle Football Club doctor Ken Withers in January 2006 claiming that inappropriate medical treatment caused a permanent loss of function of the left knee and continued pain and disability.[3] The case is to be heard in the Fremantle District Court. The main claim for negligence surrounds the treatment received following a fall in the Round 4, 2000 game against Richmond which tore the left posterior cruciate ligament. Michael missed the following two matches before playing the remaining 16 matches in the season with the assistance of local anaesthesia and hydrocortisone injections. Michael claims that these injections were excessive and have resulted in permanent loss of function of the left knee.

I had celery, tomato, cucumber, parsley, kale, carrot and apple juice for breakfast. That's got to be healthy (since it doesn't taste that great).
