Just noticed this one in a junk email folder that doesn't usually collect much:
Dear Friend,
I want to transfer US$20.5 Million to your bank account. The fund belong to our deceased customer who died with his entire family in Iraq War 2006, leaving nobody for the claim and as such, I decided to contact you as to enable us claim the fund. Your share is 40% while 60% for me. Contact me only through my private e-mail [email protected] for more details: This transaction is 100% risky free.

"This transaction is 100% risky free." Well of course then, I am completely reassured, let me just send you my account details.
Once upon a time they took some trouble to come up with these stories. They used to have at least two or more paragraphs.

I sent the following message to over 10,000 scammer email addresses...
Dear Scammer,
I am a online reporter who is doing a story about 419 email scams. Your response to this email will be added to my website and will be read by a sizeable audience of curious readers. Keep that in mind when I ask you the following...
"Why do about 95% of email scammers come from Nigeria? What is it about Nigeria that causes it to produce so many scammers?"
Please remember that tens of thousands of people (perhaps even millions) are eagerly awaiting your response...
I kept emailing until I received 100 responses. (I did not count auto-responses, error-responses, or scripted responses) Of the 100 who responded - only 18 bothered to provide a real answer the question "Why do about 95% of email scammers come from Nigeria? What is it about Nigeria that causes it to produce so many scammers?". Of those 18 who answered the question...
8 said white people, Americans or "you people" are to blame.
6 said poverty, joblessness and political corruption in Nigeria is to blame.
4 gave other answers.
0 gave "national character" as an answer.
Of the 72 who failed to answer the question...
30 said "I'm not a scammer.", "this deal is real" or other words to that effect.
19 just insulted me or used profanity.
12 stated or implied that slavery and other historical wrongs make Nigerian scams justifiable.
10 wrote cryptic or nonsensical messages.
3 promised to stop scamming if I sent them money or a gift.
7 gave some other sort of response that failed to answer my question.

Ok that sort of makes sense now, they are getting us back for making them into slaves of dribble to that effect..

A mate of mine, his Dad, sent $16000 to one of them before my mate Rich could do anything about it.
They emailed and rang to no avail!
As a lot of the replies say people still send the cash and thats why they do it.

One of the more sensible replies:-

The reason why Nigerians are the major player in the 419 business is due to the fact that our government are the pacesetters,we have had continous corrupted government.They embezzle money and fly it over to foreign countries like Britain,France,USA,Switzerland to name a few.The never think of building the nation,they dont do things that will make life bearable for the citizens.All they have achived is failure and extreme hardship on Nigerians.
Nigerians have suffered unstable power supply for many years,and the government have been unable to solve the problem,we are talking of a problem of more than 25 years old,tell me,its that a government.Mind you they keep on spending huge amount of money on the power sector without result.Anothet means of embezzlement.The fact is that you will see them embarking onsveral project,but the fact is that they are not interested in the realisation of the project,but just a means for embezzlement.Imagine if we have had 23 years of total corruption and embezzlzment,then it tells you that Nigeria as a country as failed to progress for the past 23 years,do you know the magnitude of damage that as done to the country?Do you know that two generation are being wasted already?A great harm as been done.
Nigerians are very conscious of education,and the country have produced alot of graduate,specialising in different field of life.But they cant get employment,are are languishing and suffering,they are seek any means of lifelihood including scam.They have to survive.Tell me,in a country like America or Europe,can a trained lawyer,accountant,computer engineer,journalist become a scammer.It tells you something is wrong.
I want you to know that the American government and European governments are the reason for the plague and suffering of Nigerians and Africans at large,because they never stopped them when they bring huge amount of money to banks in america and Europe,knowing fully well that they are serving a nation and couldnt have earn that much.
That is the reson why Americans and the europeans are the target of fraudstars.
Our governmet enriches your continent to the detriment of our continent through massive embezzlement of money taken to your banks without questioning,and we retrieve some percentage of it from your citizens.
There is still more to say,but i have to stop here.I hope i have been able to make you understand some things."
Not sure it it's permanent was supposed to be just a week's work, but there's lots to be done. 
best thing you can do is occupy them. Reply to their emails asking for more info, "I cant open the file", how do I claim my prize etc etc.
Reverse spamming-if everyone did it they would be sifting through it for months trying to find the truly gullible people.
This one is a new style, the "send to wrong recipient, here's a secret..." method:
Gee laurie! He said not to tell anyone.
Now everybody knows and we'll all be rich. !
