Problem is that all of it is done in international and their own waters, that makes it hard for any government body to police.

I wish I had an answer to this and the shark problems we have here, if we could just fix these two problems things in the ocean would be a better place

I say we should kill and eat the fkn lot.
Dolphins, whales, sharks, everything.

I don't see a reason why not, so long as its 'sustainable'

That will control the ocean population.

Sorry fellas. Go to most markets in Indo and you can buy whale shark meat.
Local delicacy Im afraid. Not long ago the greeny's released some video of small ones for sale, they were stil alive in small tanks in markets in east Java.
When you are hungry you will eat anything and these guys have been eating em long before we decided they needed protection.
If an Indo fisherman has to make a choice between feeding his family and protecting a whale shark Im afraid there is only one choice for him and the whale shark loses that argument.
Not sayin its right just that is the norm for them.

I'm stirring.

But you have to think about it.
why eat a tuna but not a dolphin, why eat a gummy shark but not a whale?
in other parts of the world eating a whale is fine but eating a cow is forbidden, go figure.

dolphins and whales are 'cute' and 'intelligent' so apparently therefore their lives have a higher value...that's what it boils down to.
another way to see it is as one big load of hypocrisy

+1

Paul Watson is an attention seeking meglomaniac that gathers donations by chasing off those hunting the poster boy of the fish (er.. mammal) world and portraying himself as some kind of Aqua man/Batman love child.

Not saying (some) whales shouldn't be protected but ya don't see him or the SS folks protecting Tuna/Prawns/Patagonian toohfish now do ya? No publicity in that.

I'm with Rello - if the numbers are sustainable chow down.

Pretty sure they do concern themselves with all the marine life - a quick browse of their website confirms it http://www.seashepherd.org/blue-rage-2011/
Its just the media picks up on the Southern Ocean whaling exploits.

Paul Watson is trying to protect the marine life and getting attention i think is good if it is for the right reasons.

I agree with you if you have to catch to eat is what it is, you need it for survival, i understand but it is not just that and not just with WS around Asia and you know it too. I read somewhere about a project to protect whale sharks in the Philippines i think, so instead of killing them making money through tourism, more or less what they are doing up north, i don't know if that is on now but it is a good idea to protect this species that way. Maybe Indonesian people should think about that too.
