Hi,
If any of you swim laps at the local pool you might be able to comment on the following observations (rant);
1 - Nobody is a slow swimmer. That's why the fast lane is chocked with breast strokers, people with kick boards (no fins) and dudes in huge baggy boardies. This also explains why people will kick off just as you are about to turn and start another lap (for them to be caught up with about 10m into the lap),
2 - The best place to stand around having a natter is in the middle of the lane at the end of the pool. Nobody really wants to disturb you when they would like to turn and kick off the wall,
3 - Life guards are at the pool exclusively to save lives, not maintain some order and advise a person they may in fact not be Thorpie in his kowabunga dude/kickboard phase.
I have had a chat with a couple of the life guards about the aquatically challenged swimmers but I get a 'what the f**k are you on about' look.
My old pool in Fitzroy had guards who would kick you out of a fast lane for not doing freestyle and advise on teh correct location to chat. The signs at the pool were also pretty explicit on what you can and cant do in the fast/medium/slow lanes.
Is it a WA thing? I know the drivers here can't merge on the road either.
I feel a bit better now I have that off my chest.
Cheers
If all the slow swimmers are in the fast lane and you want to swim fast you should swim in the slow lane.
Hey 4x.......sama
Just out of intrest, what time do you do over 50m ?
I sometimes do laps in an uncrowded pool early in morning and get a lane to myself ![]()
go swim in the ocean ya fkn sissy and stop clogging up our west australian pools. some of us are scared of white pointers and carnt go in the sea. fair dinkum, thats a hell of a whinge.![]()
Sounds like the kite forum. Everybody is so fkn hardcore, no beginners, all in the expert lane.
If u admit to be 'maybe kinda sorta beginner-ish, you are torn to shreds. Everyone was just born in the fast lane. Except for you, loser.
Oh shizit I forgot - "lol"
If you say lol it is all OK. oh, and the wink.
lol ![]()
Oh yeah, umm, what's a 'pool'? Is that like the "baths" that all the kite blokes refer to? ![]()
The whole problem is, they don't do security checks on the entrance so a whole lot of kiters are allowed in.
Oh, and on mark_australia's advice,..
lol![]()
While the lifeguards should keep a check on it, if they 100% enforced it that is all they'd do all day.
Don't see it as being to difficult to say "Hey sorry mate, you're travelling a little slow, you dont mind using one of the designated slow lanes?"
If it is a problem having a chat with an LG should work.
Or, there are plenty times of the day where it is quiet and you can often get a whole lane to yourself.
The life guards are there to run the place, not me.
It's a matter of staying on top of the situation so good manners are promoted. I think a lot of the time the people don't actually realise they are doing the wrong thing and in that case they will went to listen to a fellow swimmer the least.
Try telling some dickhead motorist they are doing the wrong thing and sit back and enjoy the show.
I'd suggest the quietest time is when everyone is at work (including me)
