This was a discussion on radio recently .

In general , does the race of the actors in tv and film reflect the racial mix in society ?

Do non white actors get a fair crack at jobs in the industry ?

If not , " why is it so ? ".

Maybe it's a reflection of the amount of cultural diversty within the acting community. If you watch sbs or abc there are plenty of shows promoting the multiculturalism of australian society. Actors from all backgrounds are give the chance to pedal the wares.
Maybe commercial television is a relfection of the boardrooms that run them.
Maybe the share holders don't want to gamble on racy or controversial programs the would go against the culture of white/anglo australians.

[edit] I still think the The A team is a fair representation of our society

One of my favourite programmes is Relocation Relocation.

Every fourth or fifth couple is gay,no promotion of society norm there now.

I ask myself the same question about taxi drivers and staff in 7-11 stores.

It seems every few years there seems to be a distinct paradigm shift in the racial make up of workers.

Personally, I'd be happy for Australia to take more boat people - I reckon Burmese would look awesome 7-11 and taxi uniforms.

When our society has reached a point that "reality TV shows" are the norm
The I think its high time society took a strong hard look at why these shows are so prominent. Is it media driven reality promotion? or has society just restricted to the point no other forms of entertainment is within reach.

I think they are so prominent because they are so cheap to produce.
Commercial T.V is an insult to our intelligence.
This is why i will only watch ABC or SBS.

At the start and end of show,A Place In The Sun,just love how they show a plane spewing out those 'lasting' trails.

Reality t.v or programming?

Gave our TV's away about a year ago, don't miss 'em one bit. Actually I do miss the cricket a bit but that's about it.
