Thinking of connecting my pool pump to taffif 33 to try and save some money. Just wondering if anyone else has done it and how much its costs. Also pool pumps don?t have to be hard wired in and can be connected to taffif 33 using a standard power point, so would there be any problem connecting a power board to this power point to run other appliances like washing machines etc to save having to hardwire them in. Any hints advice would be appreciated
If you have a dedicated curcuit in your meter board should not cost you that much , cost of timer a relay and sparkies time.If you dont a new curcuit needs to be run from the pool pump to the meter board , depending on how far and accesable this is can cost lots. A 1100 watt pool pump uses 1.1 KWH per hour it runs , tariff 33 is currently 18 cents per KW , and soon to go up around 11%.Tariiff 11 is about 23 cents per kw + G.S.T soon to go up 20%.you are better off installing a new low wattage pump , claim back $150 from energex and it will use around 75% less power.
The gap between peak and off peak is narrowing , off peak went up around 25% last year.When good old can do put a freeze on peak for 12 months , he only delayed the inevitable and now we will all be hit with a rude shock come July.

We went the Tarrif 33 AND the low power mode pump with our new pool and the power increase to our bills has been negligible.
Yes you could in theory use a power board to run your appliances BUT in the end you may get caught, especially with the new "smart" meters, that report back to home times and usages etc.
1 thing to keep in mind though is your chlorinator and what type of battery it uses. The Tarrif 33 is only available in certain time frames so you lose memory configurations and time. There are chlorinators that have good backup batteries and those that have bad battery backup and those that have no battery backup. There are manual devices to avert the problem but it does need some forethought and planning.
The other issue is there are lots of sparkies and pool people who are experts in name only when it comes to Tariffs and cashback offers so research carefully. Re the cashback it may still be available for switching to Tarrif 33 or putting in a low power pump. $250 was our payback from memory. We're with Ergon (Errr gone? yep powers out again).

A few brands geting about now , i would recommend Hurlcon. Shouldnt pay more than $850 , check online may be cheaper , install it yourself
