Think its about time they get a Tasmanian team in the AFL!
But I don,t know if it will happen or not?
might be a long time before it will happen.
What do you guys think![]()
Yes, definitely need Tasmania in the AFL, and the NT.
Tassie has issues in the fact of a low population, and Launceston and Hobart don't really get along!
(Or should the Melbourne Demons become the Tassie Devils!?
)
With 2 new teams, there would be 20 teams in the comp.
Then you could run 19 rounds plus an extra Round for Local Derbies and BlockBusters. 20 Round Season.
Finals for Top 10.
5 Week Finals series.
Week 1 is 7 plays 10, and 8 plays 9. Winners advance, for official 7th & 8th spot.
Then normal 4 Weeks finals for Top 8.
But doing a Top 10, it keeps 11th, 12th, 13th, and even 14th involved in the season for longer. 12th spot might even still have a wiff of finals action in the last round.
This format would be 20 rounds and 5 weeks of finals. Current is 23 weekends plus 4 = 27. My new system would be 20 rounds + 1 bye (staggered), + 1 State of Origin Weekend + 5 weeks of finals = 27. It would also be a fair Draw, except for the Derby Double Up... But I think you need to play those BlockBusters twice. Also, they are cheaper to run... All teams stay at Home, except 1... Send Tassie to NT, or Vice Versa.
Don't think theirs room for more very average teams in the AFL. Gold coast, GWS, Port Adelaide.
The expansion teams show that their is not enough talent out there now let alone 2 more teams.

I'm calling for an NT team text. Plenty of talent, nt thunder won last years neafl comp. good for the game and great for the area too.
Expanding to 20 - yes, they would be weak at the start. It's probably a job for 2016. But they somehow need to give the new teams a blend of ages.
But NT & Tassie are required teams. There's already strong AFL support.
Tassie and NT could become quite strong. They would need "Free Zone Picks". Instead of Father Son, they would get first choice of the 4 best players born in Tassie & NT. Plus their draft picks. Overtime, you could reduce it to 3, & 2 picks.
Do you want to talk about NT born players... Rioli, Motlops, Mathew Stokes, Jared Brennan, Tambling, Aaron Davey, Burgoyne... So over time, NT would get strong.
Tassie doesn't produce such a rich crop of kids... But Fevola could have been sent down there,... you could create a convict team for old times sake... You could also give them salary cap incentive... Send them some free decent older players that want to run around for another year. Houses are cheap, so the AFL could buy 4 houses with views, just for 4 "old" guys, give them free rent, for 1 or 2 seasons, then the next crop of "older" guys move in... ![]()
"Old" being 30 year olds in the modern AFL business! ![]()
I'll say it again Logman: at least we got to choose the one we kept!!!![]()

I dont think some of the past players, the late Darryl Baldock Saints Premiership captain 1966, Peter Hudson Hawthorn 150 goals in one season Richo, Brady Rawlings, current players Jack Reiwolt Grant Birchill, Mitch Robinson and a host of others would like that statement much
T11 - Those Tassie players were spread out over a long period. My list of NT players are playing great quality footy right now! ![]()
the AFL has become as boring as bat**** most of the time and games seem to just go on forever - so much extra time from umpiring stoppages
Should change it to the AUFL (Australian Umpires Football League)
The games been overtaken by technicality and the umpires seem to be centre stage.
watched a 2001 game on flashback the other day - couldn't believe how few interruptions by the white shorted maggots.
Bring back a little biff rushed behind ruckman that can grab the ball out of the pack (the Primus ruling), arm chopping and allow some deliberate out of bounds - the games turned into a circus
Thank god for ARL friday night football on TV in SA now - two games in the time of one - but whats with the ARL's love of plastic chairs in a semi circle - so 80's???
