What really gets my goat about Telstra is how they take their sweet time in allowing other companies access to their equipment.

For example, the company I work for just moved offices. Three weeks later and we still don't have internet access, it's being held up by Telstra. For a company like us that is mostly internet-based, this is pretty bad...

Luckily we've got a vivid wireless internet thingy so we're online, but it would be much better if Telstra could get off their bums and allow our service provider to plug their wires in.

Ours is not an isolated story either. I defy any company to have their internet systems working before they move in.

I'm rid of Testra now and I'm glad. If all the bills were added up I reckon I worked for at least a year for them.

Nowdays I have a mobile with 3. My Internet is through Exetel and its naked so no phone line rental. We get our VoIP phone through Exetel too.

Getting rid of Telstra is not completely true. Before we divorced they sent me a bill for $21. I didn't think I had to pay it but because they are as they are, I paid it.

So now they send me a bill every month saying I am $21 in credit and a payment of $0.00 is required.

that's interesting nebs,

one of the things i have noticed recently in brissy with smaller office building is that the refurbs are including central servers and networks.

company moves in, plugs in and away.

well maybe not that simple but not to far off it.

Wow, that sounds pretty cool there Gestalt

Brissy is light years ahead of perf though, we're a ten minute walk from the dead centre of the city, and we can't get a fibreoptic connection for love nor money

Just frustrating, that's all.

not that I'd want to defend Perth but telstra is not the only joint in town that does fibre, for example Amcom has good network in CBD and around, I would also guess Optus, nextgen, vision stream and others have fibre network. Comes down to how far you are from the nearest POP, what service you need, if you need to be on a loop or single link and how much are you prepared to pay for install & ongoing cost. But I guess you probably already knew this.

We're going through amcom at the moment

There's no fibre in the street, and we didn't feel like paying them to dig up half of perth to run a line to us.

Yay.

They could really learn from westnet. They say, "sorry it's busy at the moment. if you like we'll put you in the queue and ring you back when your number comes up"
I've done that twice now, and got rung back when they predicted, problem solved quickly. Then a day or so later another phone call to find out if every thing is satisfactory.
