This guy was responsible for the success of German shipping control in the first world war. He discovered AC, developed a deathray and had his idea for radar turned down in 1917.

No nails.

he 'discovered' ac after working out how to harness power from the atmosphere, free limitless power for all... jp morgan soon saw the end to that

as well as bein able to send electricity wirelessly, he worked out how to attract and harness lightning and send power to any point on the earth

he was said to be a eunuch, had a high shrill voice and despite having hundreds of patents to his name, died a pauper

talk about a conspiracy

^^^^^ Doctor, you have figured out the conspiracy of why we don't have limitless amounts of power for all to use. I never would have had that insight but thanks to you it is all clear in my mind now.

Now I bet everyone on seabeeze agrees with this new enlightened point of view.

Now what?

Didn't he build his laboratory right next to a power station so that he could have enough grunt to do his experiments?

And when he was doing some of them, the town experienced blackouts?

Hardly free power.

He was amazing though, like so many geniuses a bit of a troubled soul. Alan Turing is another one.

and in the ensuing 90 years, nobody - not one - has used those ideas

Testament to the power of "them"

Oh hang on, we all have AC power..... I guess that was allowed by the ethos that the powers that be live by.
They must have a document somewhere that states what they will, and will not, oppose?

my guess would be whatever they can make money off and control gets a thumbs up... everything else is shelved

stubbleford was another free energy genius, before tesla even.... he worked out how to 'grow' dc current from the ground

nope...Antonio Meucci and Italian invented the phone...

AG Bell a Scott apparently overheard something about it and and could afford the patent at the time and...did a shifty.

"Meucci could not afford the $250 needed for a definitive patent for his "talking telegraph" so in 1871 filed a one-year renewable notice of an impending patent. Three years later he could not even afford the $10 to renew it.

He sent a model and technical details to the Western Union telegraph company but failed to win a meeting with executives. When he asked for his materials to be returned, in 1874, he was told they had been lost. Two years later Bell, who shared a laboratory with Meucci, filed a patent for a telephone, became a celebrity and made a lucrative deal with Western Union. "

i sussed out this free power from the atmosphere thing once.
ithink the practicality and engineering for it couldnt be done. too long and too many cables shooting up into space. a mighty huge effort if you think about it but possible in theory.

OK so now we have an emphasis on green / renewable / no fossil fuels, why has no cashed up venture capitalist backed a scientist or two to develop the power sources? They would make free power from the sky or whatever you propose, it would be picked up by governments and private companies and they'd make a fortune.

Oil companies buying out electric car inventors and those who invented other ways of making petroleum products - yes.
"Them" stopping companies form gathering free electricty from lightning or the air, with 90 year old technology - I don't think so.

We already have free electricity, but have to pay for the infrastructure to harness it.
Look at thermal, solar, turbines, hydro all of which give free electricity but the infrastructure is what is costing the money and there isn't ever going to be a way to get around that no matter which way you try to capture energy.

I power my whole house for free.

I have rigged up my computer to harness the power from the negative energy on the seabreeze kitesurf forum and the positive energy coming from the 'all good thread'.

Sometime I have over heating issues when Petermac goes on a youtube link posting frenzy, but I try to just pour cold water on that.

What I found really interesting was the fact that Edison fought AC with some incredibly crappy tactics like filming animals, including an elephant, being electrocuted in order to demonstrate how dangerous it was.

Apparently Tesla had a fundemental disagreement with Edison over scientific method. Edison was a big believer in practical testing whereas Tesla believed that it was a waste of time as everything could be calculated mathematically.

Makes you wonder how much stuff is actually supressed by commercial interests.

Do you use distilled water? I would have thought that it would be possible to program something that air cooled it. Surely water is a big safety risk?

How does your computer go after having cold water poured on it?

No not all energy is free, only renewable energy, so things like coal powered power stations, natural gas, nuclear etc all consume a non renewable resource. When it runs out so does the power, with wind, hydro and solar we are just harnessing natural energy and changing the state in to what we need, and it will last forever.

Not true, just a different timescale. All energy is free and natural and no one source is infinate (although energy itself is a constant). Wind/hydro and Solar all rely 100% on solar energy from the sun, which is just a big nuclear reactor. It will run out, but not quickly enough to effect us too much. Fossil Fuels are just storage mediums for the suns energy.

The challenge is which use of energy is most cost effective to harness and distribute and has least impact on us and our environment.

The new solar thermal power stations where they superheat salt in to a liquid stores enough heat energy to keep power production going even at night, and times of prolonged cloud cover.

Solar power at night with a grain of salt.

The bonus of this system is there is no complex solar panels, just reflectors that concentrate heat on a central ball which heats the salt storing the energy for latter, the rest of the plant just runs the same as a thermal generator.
