I only caught the last one, thought it was on every week for three weeks. Pretty heavy stuff taking them all the way back like that.
Before anyone says anything they intentionally chose people with strong viewpoints like that or it wouldn't be as interesting, would it? The producers weren't having a go at bogans, like some senthitive people in the media are saying. (sheesh). It was nice to see them open their minds a bit/travel.
Yeah, I watched the whole thing.
Interesting how they did it. Kind of like a survivor format - not what I was expecting. It was watchable and entertaining, but by the end of it, I felt none the wiser.
Sure, you have sympathy for the refugees plight, but the program was very one sided and didn't tackle hard questions - ie: we know we got to take some of them, but how and where do we draw the line. You also knew at the start that the people/contestants would change their hard line views (they were kind of forced to)
Overall, my thoughts were that this was a propaganda film and yet another example of taxpayers money going down the drain.
I'll watch the wash up.
I watched all 3 episodes, and thought it was excellent TV - locally made Tprogramming at its best.
It was pretty disturbing to see that ex-army guy from Adelaide rounding up refugees while on that raid. In another time, another place, he might have been a Nazi collaborator war criminal.
Thought provoking. Entertaining (it is TV!).... so far
You don't rate a mystery thriller before the end, so I'll wait til end.
I don't think they ever set out to give answers, but to generate discussion of the topic from a different perspective.
Anything that raises the profile of this issue above the politics is good in my books. The old 'walk a mile in another man's shoes' is still a good way to view things and a measure of a thinking, moral and compassionate human being.
Pretty interesting and thought provoking show but ultimately apathy will continue.
I don't think the Malaysian segment would have won too much support for the governments so called "Malaysian Solution". It seemed to me that quite a bit of restraint (or editing) was being exercised by the Malay authorities during the raid - for the cameras possibly!
