Apparently "Torana" is aborigine for "to Fly". Like what a bird does.

I learnt this recently looking in the back of 'unique cars' while waiting for my wife to give birth.

There are 2 sets of number plates for sale

2 FLY

and

TOO FLY

Note that neither of them read exactly "TO FLY".

So which one is worth more, well, in the owners mind anyway? Scroll down to find out...

Mate, the Holden Torana is a great aussie icon, it won many races in the hands of legends like Peter Brock.
Next you'll be slag'n the meat pie.
go home.

I had a hotted up '74 LH Torana with custom paint job and 235 TA's when I was 18yo... was such a great car to drive. If I won lotto I'd buy a '76 LX hatchback - no flare kit - just a tweaked 253 with nice wide rims and a chrome exhaust... and I'm certainly no bogan (never have been).

FYI there's a couple of nice T's in the motor museum at Whiteman park...

My brother had a mint condition, fully worked, LJ XU1 when I was a teenager, we both raced motocross and because I had an XW Falcon with a tow bar we would use my car to tow the trailer to the tracks. Often though I would have to work so my brother would swap cars with me and I would get the XU1 for the weekend, I have never loved working weekends as much as I did back then, what a car, and no I was never really a petrol head.

Big difference between the "for sale price" and "sold price" - tell him he's dreaming!

whats a torana?

A 'torana' is the collective noun for a bunch of bogans. For example,
"look at that torana of bogans stealing those tomato plants..."

Well, if it isn't, it should be.

for some reason, during the 70's & 80's......

torana owner = moccasin wearer = fosseys shopper

like

CB radio user = CFA member = 10 pin bowler

and sometimes all 6 went together

TOO FLY as in "I'm too fly for a white boy" so I reckon its got no connection with the Torry. Wouldnt be worth much at all unless your an Offspring fan.
Also if you look at the price for a private number plate it costs more to have just a word or name than having a word or name with a number in it.
For example if your name is JOHN it will cost you $1000 but if you go with JOHN1 then it will cost you $100.
So every time I see a private plate with a number on it I think two things. The original word or name is taken or they are just a tight arse
But by adding numbers it can shorten the word so it can fit on either the ali or poly plates. You can have 7 digits on the ali or 9 on the poly.
It's fun to crack the code on some of them. Some are very creative.
I have 3 of them
Can you tell I'm a fan?
