Hey knowledgable 'breezers
I know somebody who is having great trouble getting travel insurance due to a diagnosed mental illness.
This person has not had any sort of "episode", nor hospitalisation for many years as they have medication and as such they are totally normal.
Thus I think it is pretty wrong that all insurers have said no. She'd be less of a risk to an insurer than d!ckhead young crew getting on the grog all over europe and so on.
Doe anyone know if there is an insurer who is a bit more open to such things? I guess they'd charge more due to this perceived "risk" but that is better than all the no's given so far
Hi Mark, it's going to be a case of calling up all the ones you can to see if they really cover it I think.
I did a quick google:
www.nibtravelinsurance.com.au/
www.scti.com.au/what-we-cover/pre-existing-conditions
www.1cover.com.au/medical-travel-insurance.html
At least, in the first one (the NIB one) they actually list diagnosed mental conditions as exclusions for cover, but specifically they do not cover cost arising from that condition. This implies that they do cover people with those conditions and would cover costs not associated with those conditions.
Formula, thanks for the serious answer.
Her mum has been doing the ring around for her so dunno who they contacted but about 6 or 8 companies said flat out no. Will have a look at them
Might be worth speaking to one of the support organisations... They may be able to point you in the right direction.
Ring a broker, they will be able to place. There are a few conditions that are just not accepted though.
