Julian Assange
I'm sure he'd object to me calling him a hero, but he still put aside his safety and managed to dodge USA intelligence services for many weeks to bring us the truth.
Keep up the good work mate

WAIT!!!!
It's on the propaganda services... his activities have been on the propaganda services too often recently... damn it, he's been played!
It's a disinfo operation... Julian your still a hero but you've been played... better clarify what you know.
Good man. Down with the self-righteous pricks who think they have the right to censor information to those who permit the existence of their authority.
We need more people like him.
In a statement, US National Security Adviser Gen James Jones said such classified information "could put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk".
Had to have a chuckle when I read that! I would have thought that it was at the forefront of his mind that they are already at grave risk and that his administration was responsible for putting them there in the first place. Probably also armed the opposition!
Julian has disclaimer-ed the release... paraphrasing what he said @ the Frontline Club in London: While the source is verifiable the content may or may not be accurate.
So he's saying he got it from the US military but he doesn't know if the documents tell the truth... then went on to highlight some inconsistencies.
As people trawl through 91,000 documents there's more and more coming out. Civilian deaths, friendly fire incidents, many of which were previously unreported or reported as something else.
There's a year's worth of news buried in these documents.
I hate that the deaths of troops seem to garner more sympathy than the deaths of civilians, children and all.
Voting for censorship is like voting for ignorance. Poke my eyes out and be my guide.
So which party has a policy of fast internet without the censorship?
Quite an interesting story on Wikileaks co-founder John Young here:http://news.cnet.com/8301-31921_3-20011106-281.html
^ It would have been cheap as chips to initally setup, but as a site gathers more and more traffic it can become expensive. The Setup I worked on two years ago consumed $100,000/year in electricity alone. That is not uncommon.
edit: and the current I.T. project I am on, I just had confirmed, is running at $900,000/month. It will have taken 2 years when complete.
Funny: One complaint from a user/employee we saw was that the upgrade cost $26,000. Somebody missing some zeroes there.
This week Wikileaks released more than 90,000 government documents related to the war in Afghanistan. When added to the perceived damage caused by its earlier leaking of the 'Collateral Murder' video, Wikileaks is now undoubtedly a serious target for U.S. authorities. After becoming The Pirate Bay's ISP, The Pirate Party now says that if needed, they will supply servers and hosting to Wikileaks.

Server hosting costs aside, apparently Mr Assange spends a lot of time travelling very carefully so as to avoid US entrapment. Bet that costs a bit.
If you're interested, he's supposed to be interviewed on Lateline tonight on ABC1
