Hello everyone, visiting travelling windsurfer here, making it back to WA (after 5 years) for a 3 month windsurfari. Landing in Perth 2nd November. Exciting stuff, can't wait !
I am going to buy a car and I was wondering if you could help me out with some tips.
We are going to be a group of 3.
I have been doing some research on gumtree, quokka , carsguide.
I think what we need is something in the likes of
- a double cab Toyota hilux
- 3 seater ute (Holden?)
-station wagon (ford or Holden) with a tow bar and a cheap 6x4 trailer
budget for wheels is 3000$. Planning to resell beg febr
from my previous trip I remember having a roo bar is an absolute necessity for driving at night.
For camping equipment I was thinking of getting all from BCF. Tents , gazebo, esky, cooking stuff etc
the reason I write this topic Is I need some advise and also I prefer to give my money to a fellow wind lover who has something like that for sale ,than a dealer.
Thanks in advance and good winds to all
Alex
If you wanted the car a little later than November I could have sold you my Falcon for 2k. I'm planning on upgrading but I cant sell just yet (unless I come into some money - if 20k falls out of a tree I'll let you know).
I don't know a lot about hiluxs, and commodores. I think you would be hard pressed to find a hilux in ok nic for that amount.
From what I see on the backpacker trail, there are a lot of hiace vans and ford falcon wagons.
The good thing about a falcon is that the big 4.2l engine is pretty decent. It shouldn't break down on you. They can have trouble with the injectors and get a bit shuddery when they are cold after a two hundred k's.
I had a look on gumtree the other day (perth.gumtree.com.au) for falcons to see what mine would be worth. I have a 96 Ford Falcon GLI with gas conversion. As mine is a bit tatty, and has been in a small accident and pulls a bit to the left (not badly) I think I could get 2k for it.
If you do go down the falcon path, don't be afraid to offer a few hundred less than they are asking. Don't pay more than 2.5
I just had another look this one looks ok.http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-Ford-94-EB-Falcon-Wagon-Dual-Fuel-Good-To-Go-W0QQAdIdZ236349221
If it's still around when you get here offer 1.5 maybe?
Also, check out gumtree for tents and other camping gear.
btw, the fuel on the old falcons is pretty dismal. Don't expect much better than 15l/100km. Maybe 13l/100km if it has been looked after nicely and you are not to heavy on the foot.
Anyway, good luck. I should stop procrastinating now and get back to my essay!
