I bought a weather station for about $100 from a local shop and was very happy until the wind bit froze. No problems took it back and was given a new one.
It performed well for 2 weeks then the out side temp got stuck on 7.5 deg c. Now need to take it back. The good news is no need to pay for return postage if from ebay etc and delay to get a result but still not satisfactory.
The same unit is available online however by now with return postage this would be getting expensive.
After a bit of searching I would like a weather station that provides all the normal readings plus UV index, so I am after advice, thanks.
I used to lurk on a weather forum and Davis brand seemed to get a lot of ticks for all round reliability. And those guys were passionate about home weather!! Though like anything you get what you pay for.

I've got a Davis one, Vantage Vue model with the computer interface. I did have a bunnings one but the anemometer blew it self to bits after a while and then the rest of it pretty much fell apart not long after, it did did last close to 2 years though.
With the Davis one (and the bunnings one) the rain gauge gets tied up by spiders that stop the tipping spoon from tipping, so unless your cleaning and spraying it once a week forget the rain gauge.
The vantage Vue doesn't do the UV readings, I think the next model Vantage Pro (? ) does though.
The computer interface is essential if you want to check on what has happened while you weren't watching, you can also put your data online but that looked a bit to technikal to me.![]()
The only other thing is if you buy one from ebay from outside Australia they work on a different frequency to the approved one here. Mine is imported and works just fine and does not interfere with my phone at all. If your neighbor has a head unit you can just buy the inside console and read his data, but you need to know if his AU spec or rest of world spec.( the head unit can be up to 300m away)
First I look out kitchen window at water , then if eyes not focused , ( like now

I do agree that what you see (and hear) is better than what an instrument will tell you, especially when deciding to head out on the water, no matter what your sport. These days I fish way more than kite.
But I like to look back on the week, month, year, that was.... It's also really handy to justify your complaints on a really hot day or particularly cold morning. I know just another toy ![]()
Being that far from the water I would never be able to focus, how do you do it?

Agree looking out the window is an excellent method - my wife often does this.
I have returned my dud weather station and received a full refund.
At this point I am not that serious about the gadget approach and as such not wanting to spend a lot of $.
Has anyone had experience with this company and weather station?http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wireless-Professional-Weather-Station-with-PC-Software-/300764905577
Any ideas on what brand it is?

Or you could lick your finger and stick it into the wind and save on postage and time spent posting.
What's that weird stepped-down section of the horizon in your photo Cassa? Towards the right, behind the Eucalypts (or whatever the tall cluster of trees is)?
