Sad news about the Abolone diver near coffin bay - condolences to the families and the diver that was on the boat with him - having recently spent some time in the area and sailed some of these waters it just goes to show that they are always out there and you just never know when the buggers will appear.
Also remember they are doing the same as you, looking for a feed and you are in their environment. There are safety cages made for abalone divers, but if they don't use them they do so at their own risk!
Quite a shock seeing a / the boat at the bottom of the ramp in the news having resently visited
A long way/ fair way /short way off the main land it seems dependent on whos language where using ?
Strickly hardcore but
fk that
You can climb in/out of cage directly from boat as designed but it is awkward in other than smooth seas. Most drift the cage away from the boat and there by becomes unsafe.
I've seen studies that show that shark shields won't stop a determined shark, but will deter ones that are just cruising around.
I've also seen studies that show that at longer range, sharks will come up and investigate what's making the weird zapping signal...
Some divers (myself included) won't dive anywhere near someone who has a shark shield. I prefer to remain incognito, instead of having a big dinner bell attached to me ![]()
