you know?...

Since it's whale season, I've been keeping an eye out... also doing some reading on google.

I have found out that there are 4 varieties of Orca / Killer Whale. 2 in the Northern Hemisphere, and 1 in the Southern, and a 4th rare variety that wanders around a bit... They are reasonably certain that the varieties don't interbreed...

Southern Right Whale - is 1 of 3 species, North Pacific, North Atlantic, and Southern Hemisphere. They say the Southern Right Whale comes home to the same places each year. Even the South Africa & Australian populations probably aren't doing much interbreeding. Population is around 10,000 however it is suggested that up to 30,000 Southern Rights would come to (just) New Zealand each year, before the whaling days.

^^^ The whale looks to be enjoing it?

Honestly...national news?! I don't condone the act the morons did...but it's a 'dead' whale, washed up & they took a photo 'with' it. The fact they climbed on it is a bit odd, but hey - each to their own.

[edit] It's a bit like the photo of the swimmers with guns...they were in the USA where you can open a bank account & get a free rifle! Big deal! Pics of hunters & their 'kill' - distasteful, but hey - that's their game. Those guys didn't kill the whale, just didn't give it much respect. Personally, I think we're all getting a bit precious.

Maybe this is tasteless also?! But some may say...awww-cuuuute!
