My girlfriend that has spent 90% of her life as a water baby
wears gloves always..and at a young age I can see why, as the back of her hands
are more spotted than mine...
So I certainly can see a need for them driving and being in any water activity...
but there has to be a reason for them...
but also maybe the person you saw has a sweaty hand problem..and it would be better then to wear gloves than not![]()
Proper driving gloves are made from chamios or pig skin (same thing).
Years ago, steering wheel covers were made of the same thing and laced onto the wheel. Having the cover instead of gloves gave the same result without the risk of losing your gloves or one of them.
The closest thing I can find to the chamios gloves are the MSA Rodeos which can be bought for about $8 a pair at most industrial supplies shops. Except for the dye in them turning your hands RED they are great (dry) sports gloves. Much better than rigger's gloves. The stitching on each side of the middle finger is softer and less bulky.
The MSA Rodeos are the only thing I will and do use for land sailing. Getting them wet doesn't harm them much either.
Given the name one could assume they are popular with bull riders and buck jumpers.
To go with the MSA Rodeos there the MSA Nullabor wraparound sunnies. Most on site fitters and boileries wouldn't be seen without them. UV rated to an Australian Saftey Standard, they represent a whole lot better value than Bolles etc. especially if you are fortunate enough to get them for free from work.
Unfortunately for me, as I am allergic to work, I have to buy mine, but what is $12, only four pots of Gold and I spill more than that a week.![]()
I think the name on the gloves /glasses is to make you buy them!
would you buy a pair of MSA GIRLY HANDS or wear a pair of MSA EDNA'S![]()
I always imagined they were worn by people who used them for both driving and strangling prostitutes...
