You saw a shirt for $97.

You didn't have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your mom and $50 from your dad = $100.

You bought the shirt and had $3 change.

You gave your dad $1 and your mom $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself.

Now you owe your mom $49 and your dad $49.

$49 + $49 = $98

+ your $1 = $99.

Where is the missing $1?

If you were a bank Mum would lend 50$ dad would lend 50$ Kid would buy shirt pay mum back 3450$ over 30 years and dad would get back 3450$ over 30 years

The government would then tax kids pocket money 49 cents in the dollar +10 percent gst+10 percent carbon tax to house refugee kids and support overseas manufacturing , and aslo kids who wont help out around the house for pocket money. Mum ad dad would then take a 5% cut (mum and dad fees)of any money you wanted to withdraw because you have to put your pocket money in mum and dad.

Mum and dad then claim they are hard done by for making record annual profits claiming the cant afford to pay the uncles and cousins there three figure pay increases .

Reserve God comes along and says to mum and dad and the whole fambily empire and says "You should be charging less:

So mum and dad say to Reserve god "im sorry we cant pass on any reserve god cuts but if kid needs, we can give him a line of credit cards at an inflated "mum and dad " price so he can purchase all the tea-shirts he wants.

only have to start paying mum and dad back once I start declaring 43k of taxable income a year, but thats not likely because the tshirt i bought turned out to be a dud/arts degree.

Now you owe your mom $49 and your dad $49.

$49 + $49 = $98

+ your $1 = $99.

Where is the missing $1?

its more like $49 + $49 + the $1 each from mum and dad = $100 the dollar was never missing, the problem is the formula for working out where the 'lost' dollar was.

The missing dollar

Instead of putting a dollar into your pocket you should have been taking one out of your pocket.

That way there is $101 in total which leaves $4 change which pays out the correct change.

and don't forget that you still owe both your parents $48 each as well ya tight git
