Mozzila just makes browsers and email software, it's not making operating systems.
You can run Mozilla Firefox on any operating system such as windowns 9x, xp, millennium, OSX, Linux etc

I know that google is working on a new OS but it's miles away from reality yet.
The problem with Linux base operating systems is that not a lot of program developers are working on them and almost every new software comes on MS first and you can simply find any utility for MS while it's not as easy on Linux.

I personally will stock to my XP till new computer games stop supporting it.

My personal 1 cents worth is...
Microsoft "WOULD NOT DARE" put out another badly made system.
Cause them we would all change to mac's

I've had Windows 7 for a good 3 Months now, and I must say this is Microsoft's best operating system yet, that said, if you're currently on Windows XP, upgrading could be a headache. For Vista users, it's hassle-free.

Just had a chat with a guy in IT, reckons that W7 is fast and (so far) hassle free...maybe they got this one right?

MS history (only going back a bit over a decade, didn't have a PC pre94):-

W 95-
W 98-
W 2000-
W XP-
W VISTA-[}:)]
W 7-

[edit] forgot the worst of 'em all, which I bought, and used for a whole day!

W ME-

WHY?

Had no reason to when Vista came out and still have no reason to regret that.

I've tried Windows 7 at work on both a Mac and a Dell. We used a release candidate. It seems pretty good, more stable than WinXP and quicker than Vista. It looks really good on a 24 inch iMac.

The main reason we will be using it is to access more than 4GB of RAM with the 64 bit version.
The second reason we are getting it is hopefully it will sort out issues related to a few more recent applications like Adobe CS4.

I've heard there is home networking/sharing issues when all machines arn't running W7.
So I'm a little reluctant as my media centre runs on Linux.

yeah that is a big problem because we hav a few computers in the house and only some of them are on windows 7 you cant print anything unless the printer is hooked up directly to that computer.

Been running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for the last couple of weeks and I love it. Heaps faster and seems to be pretty stable.

Best of all you can install it onto another hard drive by booting up with your old OS, run install disc and use 'custom install' to select what drive you want to install the new OS on to. This means that you can have a dual boot system just in case the new OS has issues with some older programs. Thankfully all my programs have run fine under Win 7 - even some of the bigger games.

I have a few systems networked and there are no issues so far but I think that you need Ultimate to have all the networking functions.

Also Adobe CS4 runs well with it. Seems to be a little faster than with XP.

Yeah it seems like CS4 was designed for Windows 7 rather than XP. I'm hoping Windows 7 will reduce my workload dramatically once its rolled out.

Bought a new laptop that came with XP and Vista license (XP loaded) at the start of the year. Blew the hard drive early and gave Vista a go on the replacement. What a pig. Gave Windows 7 beta a go, waay better. The change to Release Candidate version was the easiest change over I've ever done with Windows Easy Transfer. Not one single driver that I needed to go outside for. I think they may have got one right finally. Nearly as good as Windows ME. Bahahaha.

any benefit going 64, rather than 32, like is the speed heaps faster or just noticeably faster? most of my software likes 32

One of the main benefits is being able to access more than 3.2 GB (something like that) of RAM. RAM is so cheap now its not a bad thing to have more of it. The other benefit would be when the OS and other software can access the 64bit processing power, that should make things a bit quicker. No massive revolutions in speed like booting up in 1 second and rendering 60 minutes of video in 30 seconds.

Are they going to give current Vista owners a peace deal to up grade? I'm running Vista at home and it sucks!

While it does install all the drivers (even on 64 bit version), if you run a good graphics and sound card, you will have to go to the respective sites and d/l the correct drivers. NVIDIA and GIGABYTE all had windows 7 64 bit drivers ready to go.

Well what a beat up. Of course you have to pay for it if you want it. They have every right to have the rc version shut down - otherwise it would be free for everyone. If you dont want to pay, reinstall your old OS.
This seems to be typical of the 'I hate MS' crowd - tall poppy syndrome.

And as for all the Vista stuff - if all the updates and service packs are applied, Vista runs faster than XP - even on memory hungry games.

thanks mobydisc

I got 4gb ram and vista 32 ultimate, some funny quirky things go on with it, like wont cut and paste sometimes, usually when your in a hurry, icons freeze and mouse cant click on them and i thought it was the virus software. a reboot sorts it but lets hope windows 7 can sort it better

I think i'll upgrade one computer first then the second one if alls good.

Looks like Apple is crashing the Win7 house party. The new model iMacs selling much cheaper than the previous ones.

I'm getting my copy of Windows 7 soon. I had to put together a new computer for my mum recently and purchased WIndows Vista for it. It came with a Windows 7 upgrade. Not sure how I'll use it as Vista is running fine on the computer I built.

Got CS4 installed and running on vista 32 last night after having massive dramas with it all day. A lot of mucking around, chasing clean-up programs, but it has done the trick. If you want to no more, let me know!

I'm waiting for the first service pack to come out before I upgrade.

Then again by that time I'm hoping to up-grade the laptop, which might end up being a tower (so much for a new 14m).
