Hi all
I'm planning to work in the UK as a primary teacher but I'm not sure on how to go by this. Does anyone have any clue as to what I should start doing? I want to move in January 2010.
I'm all confused about approving visas, accommodation and what type of schools are out there?
I've updated my resume and have been a qualified teacher since 2006. What steps should I do?
Many Thanks
Catherine
There are points you have to accumulate before you'll get a working Visa.
Start here:
www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas
If you have a parent/grandparent with a UK or EU visa will be a lot easier. In short you may need to be sponsored by your employer and they'll have to prove they can't find anybody local to fill the position. Age counts too, even how much you earn can count. I remember having just enough/not enough points a few years back as the exchange rates fluctuated day-to-day.
I've found the only way for myself is to get sponsored, I work in one of those "specialist" fields.
I hate to break it to you but I don't fancy your chances as a teacher. I may be completely wrong of course, judging by how much a grad teacher makes in WA!!!
Edit: Shortage Occupation List

There are a few companies that specialise in bringing Australian teachers to the UK, maybe get in touch with the teachers union for the details. It is relatively common, or at least was 5 years ago when a few people I know went there for a few years teaching experience.
The UK school year starts in early September (or late august for the Scots) so you may want to rethink when you need to be in the UK by.
