Didn't intend on watching it but did so by accident.
Thought it would be utter sh!te and was only partially correct.![]()
Was a lot better than I thought it would be (but hardly outstanding) and certainly not the worst comedy I have seen lately.

Oh, and Tom, poor ol' Tom. And, the kids out the front of the lodge. Brilliant.
I liked the independents , dictating the terms at the dinner table , getting Tim to make the coffee just the way they wanted!!
the show as a whole .... just a bit of a giggle
glad to see something that doesnt rely on swearing, you needed to listen and look for the subtleties? in the actions.
look forward to next week.
I cringed, start to finish. A steaming rancid pile of cack. "Hey dad" had better acting and "Houseboat horror" had a better script. More annoying than "the Librarians"......one star.
It wasn't a bad show. A bit of satire can be funny. Julia did not come too bad out of it. The three amigos are the ones who probably dislike it more than anyone else along with ALP MPs.
Why be an ALP MP? Your opinion or voice doesn't matter. Meanwhile the independents can tell Julia what time they are coming round for dinner.
I thought it was hilarious, best show I have seen in a long time. I just loved the way "acting" Julia mimicked "real" Julias big bum waddle.
I reckon it will lift the current PM's approval rating as you can't help feeling great sympathy for her inability to organise her nookie time with Tom. or is that Tim!
Four and a half stars from me.
I finally caught the first two episodes online. I ranged from rolling on the floor laughing, to cringing at how accurately it portrays the incompetent federal govt we are lumbered with.
Funniest show since early Kath & Kim :-)
Poods
I watched for the first time last night.
Funnier than I thought, but I don't believe that tripe should be put out by the ABC.
It is a character assasination, not a comedy show.
Political satire should be about the statements people make, the contridictions in their policies and the decisions they take. It should not be about their personality or character.
Last night's episode ending scene was a sad and lonely Julia crying on the floor of her kitchen, brought about by her own personality. It leaves an impression in the mind of the viewer as to the nature of the person, that is not necessarily true but sure to influence the polical opinion.
By having a show that has one politican as its lead is disproportionate and politically one sided. Spitting Image and Dawes and ... (Brian whats he called) have 3 minute sketches equal over the political spectrum. 'At home with' has 30 second cameos from others and 30 minutes of character assasination of one person.
Don't get me wrong, I think Julia is a useless PM, but I don't think my tax money should be spent making this sort of 'entertainment'. I am sure many manical dictators have represented the character and personality of their opponents in a less sordid way.
It apears to me to come down to the fact that the ABC and the shows writers are too dumb to work out the difference between Kath and Kim style soap opera fiction and political satire.
They should stick to low brow, pop culture, bland entertainment of the poorest quality for the dumbest masses and stay away from anything that requires intelligence to broadcast. But I guess then it would be called 'today tonight with Julia'
The problem with the show and most Aussie comedies is we've seen the best from around the world and it doesn't cut it to just cut it to say it's ours and therefore lets barrack for it. We've seen "yes minister" and "Fawlty towers" so we know what great comedy writing is, we've seen "arrested development" and "the Allan Partridge show , so we know what good characters are like. So there's the bar, it gets raised now and then and when shows miss the mark they should cop it. As for the PM being a tabboo subject, naahh, give it to her, both barrels, only the gun is a pop gun.
No problem giving to the PM, or any other politician, criticism is an important part of a democracy and humour and satire is an important part of life.
But there is a line somewhere between deriving humour from a persons own character, beliefs, religion, sexual orientation, ability etc. as opposed to their actions in public office.
For sure ridicule and satarise Julia. But mocking her for her decision not to marry, just seems character assassination of a biased polical type. If, for example, she publically and politically criticised couples living together out of wedlock (as say the church does) and then lives out of wedlock herself, then for sure lay it into her.
But for the ABC, a publically funded a-political organisation that has one-sided legal protections for what it says and does, portraying her as a lonely and sad figure sobbing on her kitchen floor for failing to manage a relationship, just doesn't seem right to me.
Funny maybe, but not right.
Let's have a comedy show mocking disabled children's dreams and aspirations. Some may also find it funny, but it is not necessarily right. - oh wait the ABC put that out as well.
But yes, even ignoring the above, compared to say Spitting Image or Clark and Dawes I though it was very poor quality writing and producing.
