my mouse is playing up. Its one of those red light jobies. how do they work? Should I take it apart and try to fix it or just chuck it ?
They have a camera inside that compares the image it sees many times a second and works out where it has moved to. They are referred to as an optical mouse.
Other than checking that the red light comes on, I don't think there's much to do with them, and I doubt you could fix them unless it was something obvious like a dodgy solder joint.
They are cheap enough that you should be able to get a replacement pretty cheap.
Is it cabled or has it's own bateries?
Mines a chargeable one and occassionaly it play silly buugers sending a signal to the reciever so I end up having to use it on top of the desk rather than the keyboard shelf.
If that's ot the prob then try it on diferent surfaces see if that helps
it plugs into usb port. sometimes it works on a cushion but not the table. might have to chuck it in the bin laden......
Another thing happens with the wireless ones is that they sometimes loose the radio connection. I had mine go dead one time and found in the installed program for the wireless mouse, the help files told me how to re-start the radio frequency. Either the program installed has a tool to do this from the PC for the USB transceiver, or a reset button on mine need to be held in for 10m seconds. The product websites have FAQ and more for this type of probs too.
Have you tried a bit of testosterone in it's diet? Maybe introduce a lady mouse into the equation too? Hope this helps..
