Hi Guys,
Well while opinions have been espoused as to double paddles for standup,
there are those who have been actually using them (for 4 years) and developing the needed mechanical patent to make the paddles work like a dream. It's called "The Dynamic Rotating Grip, (DRG) ".
Double paddles for standup are really fun in Small surf. Improves reflex paddle placement, good cross training (you'll see) Double paddles for standup are FASTER. 5 seconds quicker at 100 yards.
Double paddles for standup present double the workout in half the time using muscles you would never imagine ! Going straight without having to constantly realign a course is very useful.
Paul Nichol and Jason Gava have a couple south of Sydney.
Aloha !
More pricey.
Quite long - if the surf sucks dry, reckon there is a greater chance of breaking your paddle.
The length will add to shaft flex, reducing effectiveness.
The connections of the handles may see structural fatigue.
Single-blade switch and maintaining a course will develop your core quicker.
I ain't no SUP fan, but I use more a double-paddle than the normal one.
The one I use is an odd shaped, longish kayak thing. I use it kneeling (one knee), and it has a lot of pull. Makes the sport more symmetrical, I find.
