I think fiberglass is a better ride, ally boats tend to bounce a bit, where fiberglass tends to absorb chop better. Ally is better in the long run and tougher by far.
Depends on how long you are going to keep it I guess.
Have fun

Bought a 5.7 Quintrex (aluminium) with a 115 4 stroke yammy about 6 months ago.
The millenium hull is awsome, it rides like a glass boat. We fish, dive, ski and the boat is so versitile, without the weight of a glass boat. This one was 30K for an 06 model.

thanks for the advice, my dad is really keen on aluminium, more to the point he wants a quintrex with 115hp because he his more in to the fishing thing, i would prefer a v8 ski boat but they dont work to well off shore

i bought a 6mtr Quintrex , with the millinium hull 115 4 stroke, by far the best , cheapest to run ,boat I've had .
You wouldnt want to drag a glass boat up on some of the beaches up north, or for that matter, tow the extra weight.
But for watever purpose, each to their own.....

Depends on the hull style but:

Aluminium Cons:
More expensive.
Harder ride.
Electrolysis

Aluminium Pros:
More durable (better around reefs!)
Lighter
Smaller outboard needed/Less fuel to run
Smaller tow vehicle needed.

alexb,
I've got a 6m 'tinny' (Savage 'swordfish', with 115 Johnson). As mentioned above, FG will give a smoother ride, but if you're towing a fair distance, they weigh around twice AL. Plate hull AL boats have come a long way...I've modified mine with an AL checkerplate floor, and underfloor fishtank. Carpet keeps the smells in.

...also, I'd be looking at a 4cyl motor, more economical (by far) and quieter.

Geelong Boating has 'Razerline' boats (made in WA?) Goood looking AL plate hull boats, mixed reviews...worth a test drive though. Also, from my own experience, you cant beat either barcrusher or stabi hulls to fish from

...as for skiing ? - that's more about the motor noise, graphics & soundsystem!
