Dear seabreeze-board,
my name is Thomas and I am 20 years old and live in Germany. Last year I finished high school and acquired the Senior General Secondary Education. In February I am going to finish my civil service and on the 16th of March I will fly to Melbourne and do “Work and Travel” for about 4 month. In September 2011 I will start studying food technology in Germany.
My question is if you know some surfing-clubs where working for board and lodging or a small salary for example as an assistant or caretaker is possible.
I could for example work in the service, clean the equipments, rooms and beaches or I could for example cook for the team.
I firstly got in contact with surfing during my holiday last year. Also my father was a good surfer when he was 25 years old and I am alway fascinated when I see kite- and windsurfers on the beach.
My “dream” for the next 4 month is that I can work in Australia and improve my surfing skills.
I would be very grateful if you could give me some advices where I could apply!
Looking forward to hearing from you, I remain with best regards,
Thomas
If you are in Melbourne, Alba's surfclub is great..

They don't hire though.

Be careful with the use of the word "surfing" over here it's got nothing to do with kite sailing or windsurfing.
It means going out in the ocean with a surfboard and catching waves. Also a lot of fun, and Aus is also a great place to practice it, but I suspect that's not what you meant.
Thomas
The only place to come for the BIG wind is Western Australia. The East Coast sux for consistent wind. Western Australia also has the biggest waves, so go figure.
There are plenty of fruit picking/laboring jobs in the south around Margaret River which is the best place.
As far as I know there are no resort style windsurfing clubs in Australia.
March to September is the off season in Western Australia, (apart from Winter storms).
Not sure about wind in the other states, but Victoria will be cold.
arrived last Thursday in Melbourne...
Just have seen a little bit of Melbourne but up to know I can say that it is the best town I have ever seen.
The weather is perfect, everything is new and clean, a huge number of great cars, everybody is relaxed and friendly ..
The next days I will keep on trying to find a job and then I hopefully will get to the beach.
Thomas
Let me tell you, it was a top day again today here.
It's hard to predict, but generally, autumn has to be the best season of year in Vicco. Tomas did well coming to Melbourne now.
Yes guys but remember that a good summer day in Germany is colder than a winter day in Melbourne!
Jump in a plane and come in WA mate best state to be!![]()
