Do it yourself.
It's an easy job and it's good exercise digging the trench.
You don't have to do it all in one day. Just dig in a few metres first off and then once you see how easy it is you can just dig in 3 or 4 or 6 or 6 or 7 sheets every evening.
Just had two quotes at my place for insurance (storm damage) one contractor $120 a sheet installed with top capping other contractor $110/sheet installed
So is this pretty much asbestos style fencing?
I build fences and pull down old asbestos in QLD, there are a few areas that it would be possible to trench but 90% of places would be impossible to do.
Can't go wrong with colorbond, by the sounds of it probably cheaper too.
I had the same deal from the Perth Storms in June (it's still down)
Basically from what I gathered Storm damage hardifence is a bitch . They have to dig up the old broken stuff and then retrench it. So alot of contractors won't touch the jobs. Also hardifence is in short supply at the moment.
If it's brand new hardifence on a new lot then its easy, they are bang up for it.
Colorbond - yes its cheaper easier to install so they will also push it.
A few pushed it onto me, for 20 metres of fencing it was going to cost around 3000 but in colorbond just over 2000. You may think thats an easy choice, go with colorbond...however I have a 90 metre fenced perimeter. I dont have the cash to fit the rest of my unbroken fence with 70 more meteres of colorbond.
^^^ same deal as me, not going to replace all my fences since only half a back fence is gone.
My fence is still down from the same storm, trying to get the neighbour to agree to pay half the repairs is a nightmare.. Its a rental and obv the owner of the house doesnt care
Colourbond is OK where both adjoining properties are on the same level - but where one is higher than the other then you are also up for a retaining wall...
Also, if your block is sloped in any way, then the fencing panels will have to be stepped and there will be gaps at the bottom - so no good for small pets.
clarkee - where are you located? If NOR, I just had someone do mine... and a neighbour also just had theirs done and they are happy with the job. I can get contact details if you want... let me know.
colorbond can be raked, as in the rails follow the ground and the sheets are cut to the correct angle, sheets have to be longer so its more expensive to acheive the same height on a raked block.
i understand the benefit when retaining is required but ive built many walls where timber sleepers or steel plinth is slid inside the post c sections. its really neat and simple.
so is the problem that the remaining undamaged fencing is hardi fence around the block?
well then did out the old sheets and put in the new ones, if there are sheets already in it will be easy to dig a trench down beside the old sheets.
My insurance co just asked how many sheets damaged and they paid out $110/sheet. Hope your neighbours come good with the money so u can get paid for the job. :)
