Last night around 11pm was driving up Great Eastern Highway, when i reached Guildford, saw the on the inside lane cars had come to near standstill.
A 20 year/old or so aboriginal girl was lying down in the middle of the left lane. She would then get up,move to verge then walk back on the road staggering about.
I passed her, turned right 10m ahead at the traffic lights, drove into the garage and told the guy working there to call the cops, which he already had.
Walked across the busy dual lanes, then i tried to lift her off the road but she was like a beached whale.
Standing on middle of left lane i then tried to halt the traffic, which nearly got her ran over as i was blocking the view to her lying on the road. They seemed indifferent to stopping for me waving my hands, standing in upright position than to body lying on the road.
So i managed to get her to stand up and pulled her onto the footpath. For the next 5-6 minutes i had to wrestle with her as she kept trying to run onto the road shouting i want to kill myself.I got her into some kind of police hold and managed to pull her screaming across the road into the relative safety of the garage.
The police arrived just as i got her across the road, interesting with no sirens going.Yes garage attendant it was an emergency!
Donations please.
petermac clevery disguises his abduction attempt with a rescue senerio
"no officer i was just trying to put her in the boot of my car to save her life"
Nice work, seriously, but a true hero doesn't ask for a reward.
Once you start asking for a reward, it makes people question your motives for helping in the first place...
Your just as bad as the government interfering in every thing we do!
Who made you the fun police!
What rite do you have to play god with this girls life!
For F@#$sake get over your self :)
She probably saw you coming and was the same woman who was doing some shopping last week with her young daughter.
Not wanting to have a crazy man preach anti-immunisation internet propoganda at her again, maybe she considered death by big truck to be a more pleasant experience ?
Alternatively maybe she read the Seabreeze Kitesurf forum and decided human evolution has peaked and has commenced a very rapid downwards spiral.
Or maybe she just just had a session at Pelican Point on a Stabber Kites Inc. prototype.
Maybe she just lived in Guildford ?
Every now and again someone will point out the dangers of doing the right thing, here's an example that makes me scratch my head and sorry for coughing up work.
Last year we got a call someone was doing the suicide thing by trying to gas themselves with a hose into their car, turns out it was a happy ending as the guy was only filling a water container from a hill side creek on the side of the road, he had the door shut so it wasn't taken off by a passing car as he waited in the drivers seat. What got me scratching my head was the fact some one thought he was doing himself in but they didn't stop to help, just rang it in and kept going, not stopping and maybe break a window or whatever.
When I mentioned this to some friends they said they wouldn't have stopped either because it could have been a trap, FFS it could have been my kid, your kid, mate, or someone's loved one etc etc.
Good on you Peter, you don't need a medal but yes you should be happy with your self.
Cheers Uncle Bob.
Was being sarcastic when i said i deserve a medal.
Was surprised no-one was willing to stop and offer me help, despite my loud pleas for help.
Funny thing on saturday mid-night filling up on fuel, saw this this other male aboriginal at garage talking to two taxi drivers. Just about to drive away and he asks for lift home.
Driving 8km other direction, he starts talking about his 'speed' and offering me some for free. Saying it's $25 or $35 for a gramme or something.
I said don't touch them,then he asked am i married,do i have a girlfriend,then finally am i gay.
Finally asking me if i've ever seen bbc.
All NO to above. He did thank me.
If the motivation of people who didn't stop, was fear of some sort, then that makes Peter braver than the average.
Same with other possible reasons, racism, selfish uncaring, etc.
Don't agree with a lot of your viewpoints Peter, but take my hat of to you for doing something to help when no body else seemed to care at all.
^I agree As much as it is heroic Pete just proceed with caution. On any rescue operation Danger is the first to be assessed.
By placing yourself in immediate danger to protect someone incompetent of making rational decisions requires a medal. The risks involved in protecting this " pedestrian" as you stated were dangerous. Personally i did the same thing a few years back when i was an adolescent (attended a bad traffic accident). Where debris was scattered across oncoming traffic ( a couch came of the back of a ute) cars everywhere . i ran down the middle of a duel lane highway facing oncoming traffic with my hands waving.. In this situation it didn't make a difference. The drivers slowed down but it wasn't enough.
When i look back i had placed myself in a vulnerable situation i felt i had no control over my own personal safety nor or the actions others that lead the escalation of further damage and loss of life.
I admire you heroicness but just keep yourself safe first bro.
You saved a life but ultimately could of lost your own.
I gather she is now fully informed about chemtrails, fluoride, 911, aliens and "them"............
And begged the police / ambo's to take her away when they arrived. ![]()
Seriously though, well done Pete - I am astounded at the numbers of people who do sweet F.A if they see a crime or a person in need.
Whats even more hard to comes to terms with.. The person who potentially ran-over (9 points is it??????![]()
