Received a second notice today from the nsw electoral commission for a penalty notice of $55 for not voting. Now the reason i didn't vote was because it was blowing 30knots and the swell was up all day! There is two options on this notice one to pay $55 or there is a second option which reads:
Reasons for not voting. these options include i was absent from nsw on polling day, named person is deceased, i had an honest belief that abstention from voting was part of my religious duty (Kite surfing when its windy) and then lastly other reasons.

Is there any way i can get out of this without starting a religious group revolving around kitesurfing? Or do i have to pay the $55 so that the junkies can get there crack?

Yep I forgot to vote once. I actually emailed I think. I said I had "the runs" and didn't feel comfortable to venture away from home, away from the toilet. Nobody like to talk about "the runs".

Tell them you did vote and start blowing about the mix up and how shattered you are about the possiblity your vote may not have been counted as you are a strong believer in the the democratic system and demand an explanation. At the end of the day dear old "Beryl" was marking off a lot of names that day and may have missed yours. Put it back onto them.

Well I was going to say stop whinging about government if you can't be bothered to vote but I see you did have a good excuse. I think the $55 is for tax cuts for Twiggy and his rich mates though

My wife uses this trick. Tell them you did a postal vote. Then continue with how pissed of you are that your vote obvisouly hasnt been counted and that you put alot of effort into making your preferences so that your voice is heard. They quickly close the case. Hasnt failed yet

I used this trick for 10 years, then enrolled so I could make my voice heard in the WA daylight saving referendum.

Fat lot of good that did!
