The iPhone 5s will feature an NFC chip and another NFC chip which can be implanted under the skin in your hand to unlock the device, thus increasing security.
The sub-epidermis NFC chip is 60% smaller than a grain of rice and is intended to stay there indefinitely as it will require no upgrading because it's only used to transmit a 256bit AES public key with their phone, and any future phones.
Apple's Tim Cook believes with ever increasing amounts of private information held on a phone the existing security measures are inadequate.
They trailed Iris, and finger print scanning but found it to be too slow and unreliable in many situations, like dark environments or where the users hands were covered.
iOS6 supports NFC to unlock the device and Passbook also includes support for NFC, but the hardware wasn't included in the iPhone 5 as the payment gateway wasn't ready, nor the regulatory approvals for the epidermis chip applicator.
Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 5S in the fall of 2013 with support for American Express ExpressPay, Mastercard PayPass and Visa PayWave.

I guess they're getting the info out sooner than usual cos of the novel under skin chip.
I think that's pretty cool, no more passwords/pins, just pick the phone and it knows who I am.
Would also make payments much more secure.
I bet Android will do this too as most new handsets already have NFC readers, and at least Apple is using the open NFC standard.

What a crock of crap ..... This new iPhone is using a different charger , carnt use the dock peripheral crap ....... Buy new rubbish to go with it .....
And they expect people to inject a security device under there skin , only to find that it's not compatable with the next model ........ Ioff apple !!!!!!!!!
NFC is great... if you only have one of them.
Ever since I got my paypass card, my transperth smartrider card card wont work in my wallet anymore. ![]()
All that time I save 'waving' my paypass card a couple of times a week VS the friggin around 4-5 times every day with the smartrider.
Go to any shopping center and look and see how many people of all ages are staring down at there smart phones as they walk around or sitting down eating or whatever. Its amazing how much influence a small piece of electronic **** can have over people.
Some one once said "In the land of the blind, the one eyed monster reigns supreme."
The one eyed monster has morphed from the TV screen to the computer screen and now to the phone screen.

2 Things
1). JIC - Regardless of brand U need to be aware......http://technologyspectator.com.au/how-safe-your-smartphone?utm_source=Technology+Spectator+List&utm_campaign=032a5a51ca-TECH_SPEC_DAILY&utm_medium=email
2) The IPHONE 4S was all the rave just a few short months ago - so the price is bound to come down from the stratosphere - given Apple are shoveling them out the factory at $6.45 they are still making a healthy wack - and lets face it most their money is made thru' the IStore....
Cheers

A Brilliant short that brings up many valid issues in a very stylish way.
While cameras let you see light and landscapes with an accelerated appreciation they also can take you away from just enjoying the moment.
So many of these images just end up on hard drives / wiped / viewd for 3 seconds on facebook - small benefit for so many cameras being waved around at concerts , parties, restaurants , bars,
So be selective , choose your moments and try printing the good shots out to a book. And dont forget to enjoy real life.
...just wondering how strong the magnetic field would have to be to wipe out my hard drive, and whether I shouldn't be more scared of cars falling from the sky.
