You can cover it for theft from your house or car by including it in your house contents insurance. You might have to nominate the items as portable valuables and pay an extra premium for it.

Most policies have a general portable stuff coverage included in the basic policy. You could get a few hundred back if your stuff got stolen without paying an extra premium.

You could get coverage for loss and damage in use but I think it would cost too much.

The best plan is to be a little bit careful about where you leave your gear and where you park your car.

best way I find is with preimium home insurance which will cover your contents from theft, loss or accidental damage, usually at home or also away from your situation (house) . Does not cover damage whilst in use but i dont want it for that anyway. does cover it if someone taxes it out of the back of the ute. they will try to lump everything into a set but you can define your board as a surfboard and kites as kitesurfing.

best bet is to ring an insurance broker, tell them what you want and let them do the leg work for you. they will then give you a ploicy brochure with their stamp on it. then tell them they are a bunch of bottom feeding knobs and ring the company direct and ask for the policy they recommended.
