Quote:- showing some level of skills in written English.
Is that not one of the core prerequisites for any employment above the level of street sweeper or ditch digger.
Our youth are being dumbed down.
being a fitter turner, while not really requiring expert grammar skills, does require a fairly good standard of mathematics.
While its entirely possible that your English school results are poor but maths is top of the range, it does seem unlikely and certainly anyone reading this would likely laugh this off as a troll.
Especially with only 4 posts on here.
But Im suggesting, as others have already that you need to brush up on presentation and learn to sell your self.
You will only get one chance in approaching businesses as above, and eventually you will run out of people to approach with a first impression.
Nimben probably isnt the best place to pursue a career either?
All of that is true, however, I was absolutely horrified quite a few years back when my daughter came home and told me that English was no longer compulsory in high school. We reap what we sow ??????????? I believe English is compulsory in some foreign speaking countries............. what the F###!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you both. However the education system we have seems to be failing.
Many of the homework questions I have seen my children come home with would be more appropriate as word and number puzzles in the back of a magazine.
My daughter, now 18, quite mentally capable and achieved very good results at primary school, simply refused to go any further with her high school education three quarters of the way through her final year.
She claimed the teachers were boring her silly. The school is the largest in town with around 1,600 students and we have a population here of around 70,000.
The school seems to be overly represented by female teachers with only one or two males in the teaching staff.
For the last 15 months she has just been going from pillar to post with various traineeships (hospitality, office work) and has not developed any sort of career direction. Peer group pressure and home environment are partly to blame but like many teenage girls today, she is very head strong and does not accept parental advice or direction well at all.
Now I have my 12yo son about to enter high school. He has been achieving excellent results at primary school and I am desperatly hoping he will stay on that track through high school by being able to see that it will lead to something.
Seems that when a young person is asked what they want to be as adults it mostly comes down to "rich and famous". Overly ambitious and generalised.
Should I worry or just get on with my own things??
AYE YOU LOT!!! Im a fitter and machinist and i cant spell for $hit. But one thing I do know is that Im quite allright at maths , I know my trade insideout and I would get a job anywhere in the world no worries.
Alex Why are you moving to Nimbin??? Seriously? No there isnt any places for you to even look for that kind of work let alone a 4YEAR training agreement.
If you are serious about becoming a fitter the next closest industrial area would be Balina, Gold coast , Brisbane or Newcastle.
Anyway If you end up In NIMBIN I dont think you will be needing this site anymore.
Crops grow well out that way I hear. Maybe concider becoming a farmer.....![]()

What the heck are you talking about?
Are you saying that precision in expressing one's self is irrelevant when it comes to being precise in one's profession?
If you regard a plumber as a non professional because he is NOT university trained and an accountant as a professional because he IS university trained, you are likely to get plumbing and financial advice, neither of which will hold water!!
You say at high school "they" taught you how to watch movies. For what purpose? Becoming a film critic?
Do you think that if a script writer had not a command of the language, the actors would gain an understanding of the characters they are to portray?
