feral pests that infest our waterways and kill native fish species.

feed them to the dog/cat/local asian restaurant!

or bury them in the vege garden.

It was a carp 'farmer' who had the grand idea of farming these fish along the Murray river in dams years ago, ultimately the river flooded, and the carp escaped into our waterways...and remained a pest ever since! We have them in a local estuarine river here, and as resilient as they are, I wonder how long it will take them to adapt to salt-water and escape into our oceans? Decades/centuries?

On the upside, if treated with clean water (throw them in a bath, or trough for a day or so) they're a tasty fish to eat!

A friend's parents 'electro-fished' for carp in Vic a couple of years ago and managed to catch several Koi and sell them as an off-chute. Are they a genetic throwback of the carp? Or Visa-versa?

I have a few Koi of my own and would never put them in the main lake as they would kill my perch but as a pond fish they look great though. Be careful though if anyone has a big dam/lake as they grow big in a year and then can then become top of the food chain.
