Hey guys, my mum and dad brought my brothers and I tickets for a 9 day cruise through new caladonia for xmas. We leave next week (24th Feb) and I was thinking I might sneak my kite aboard hoping I might get lucky and sneak a day riding in, anyone know if it would be worth lugging my gear around for the chance of there being a days ridding in this time of year???

Hi josbuts, mate you could get a bit more wind than expected that time of year maybe cyclonic, but on saying that there is some great kiteable waves over there like Oneous and Tannah not sure if i spelt them wright,

Those waves are in Vanuatu, not new Cal.....

We had a "cyclone" last week, but nothing worth mentionning.

If you have a one day stop in new cal (nouméa), grab your gear and head to "La pointe magnin" just after the méridien hotel.(10 mn in a cab)
ask them to drop you at "aquareve"

Please make sure you go there and not on "anse vata beach" as that spot is for windsurfers only
No waves but beautiful spot and lots of guys out there on the water.

please keep in mind that locals don't wear shorts over wetsuits, just shorts !!!

how about a real long rope tied to the stern of the cruise ship and a set of waterskis?

Already done, , french skiing legend Patrice Martin did it behind the fabulous ship "Club Med 2" in 1996, in New Caledonia.

Couldn't find a pic...

No idea mate... I don't kite... Most of the times I'm out with my 6.7 or 7.8 windsurfing if that helps...

depending on the cruise you might also stop at Lifou which has a beautiful beach, but I don't the wind direction or strength over there...

Thanks to Sean, and Laurent at Sp@ce, I sailed at Anse Vata and I'm definately going back. I should clarify that this is windsurfing, not kiting though...

I just got back from a cruise that stops at Lifou and I wouldn't recommend it as a sailing spot.
The cruise ship normally anchors in the channel between the islands and there is a reef at the south end. The wind seems patchy through the channel and if you attempted a down winder, there's no one there to pick you up!

Hmmmm.... just discussing an 8 day stay in Noumea with wife, you know The French culture, food etc & only $1100/head all up. Such good value, dear

and then of course there is Anse Vata!
