Most of the nerds probably already use/know this but i was surprised at how many people don't know about the on screen keyboard..it certainly won't stop someone who is determined to hack your passwords but it does slow them down a bit and avoids key stroke loggers.
Useful at this time of year when you are plugging your credit card details in willy nilly buying stuff and paying bills, logging into bank accounts etc.
Just go to start and then run and type in OSK in the box and enter, it will appear on the screen ,use it to enter the relevant details...
Cheers (my Xmas good deed done )
To be honest cyber thief's couldn't give a **IT about end users accounts, etc... we go directly to the DB's.
Your details (address, CC, banks, etc) sell for ~$0.40.
Every single Australian bank has been hacked, except I haven't heard anything about ANZ (I don't bank with them).
If your worried about keyloggers, Notepad > Press Keys > Copy/Paste characters
Where that password field get sent probably has a compromised certificate > so somebody could be in the middle.
So moral of the story > nobody cares > banks lose billions a year, but since they're stealing many more billions from you anyway the party goes on.
Paying by card in person? Camera sees everything ![]()
And yet I read my card number out over the phone to complete strangers all the time, give my card to complete strangers in restaurants and shops, etc. etc.
Flysurfer is right, the banks create trust in the system by honouring any stolen money/cards. They still make money overall.
...I'm more tempted to go and buy stuff and then say the card was stolen. ![]()
You wanna watch out for those in store and ATM cameras though, they will check ![]()
My small, online Xmas tip is:
Setup a U.S. (whatever happened to the A.?) account in iTunes. Now albums are $10 instead of $17.
Worth buying for $10 when they include a lossless format, coming soon.
... i go on (coffee).
Some of the holes are massive. It's not uncommon in large organisations for reconciliation to be out by millions, for months. Take for example the guy that ripped of Uni of South Australia off $20m or so. He bought houses on the beach and a fricken' basketball team before anybody noticed. He wasn't even trying to hide it.
But yeah, let's say you've taken $20m. What now?
**** that.
(that was a good coffee)
My other small xmas tip is: pay cash as much as possible. it beats any credit card points.
Cash used in the right way, can also get you massive discounts, I always ask for "mates rates", And usually get it by paying in cash
(saved a absolute fortune,)
plus no one gets my card details, even better
Top keyboard tip,+1
will try it next bill
Flysurfer,
so do you download by binary or not at all ? Just asking ?
Cash hell yes. Banks awful. 2 years ago i had thousands taken by a bank errror to someone unknown, it was the banks poor account access that granted someone else access to my account. Took 3 months to fix, 4 new cards, ombudmans the lot. Massive pain in the ass. Try Dec,Jan,Feb& half of march with no access to your money. Hilarious.
