Try this -

Use a set of 3 gang hooks with a nylon tracer about 50-60cm long and depending on conditions use a sinker big enough to cast past the surf, oh yea use swivels where ever you join the line.

Hope that helps

Spinners work every time the buggers are active. However was catching mackerel the other day off the break wall and the bloke next to me caught two 1kg tailor on a running sinker off the bottom with a 2cm piece of pilchard on a no 2 hook.

sometimes you wont require a weight use mulie.
If you want you can replace your weight with a heavy spinner if you want your balls chewed out by fisheries!

'Poppers' (white body, red head) work great in washy surf, otherwise a big ball sinker right above the hook with a ganged pilly!

The above picture is a good method, as the bait will stay off the bottom and bounce along as you slowly draw the line to you - there are any number of methods for tailor - if there is no weed - you put a running bean sinker above a swivel, then maybe two and a bit foot leader of stronger line - to ganged hooks, with a mulie - as you draw this through the water it looks fairly realistic as, it "swims". Or attach a white blob float again above a swivel, and leader with ganged hooks and mulie - will keep the bait near the surface - which is good if the bottom is rocky or weedy. Tailor are voracious feeders - so I think you can catch them pretty well on most rigs. Been a few about the beaches here in Mandurah lately - got 8 a few weeks back.
