thank you to the BOM for sending all that lovely rain down to kalgoorlie. we went out today looking for lakes to sail ,windsurf, kite ,canoe SUP,whatever.
the first lake we checked is lake gidgee.
its a chain of lakes and a creek systemover 4km long .
AND ITS FULL AND FLOWING

heres the fall from lake 1 to lake 2. only access is to canoe up from a crossing 2kms downstream

heres the entrance into the main lake. the lake is 1km long and a consistent 1m deep along its length. tommorrow we have kits, windsurfers, canoes and my gaff schooner all planned, forcast is a sunny 30 degrees

nah, its all kalboguns round here.
they are slowly emerging from hibernation and scraping the crap off their skidoos and Vfn8skiboats relicencing the trailers and heading out to rowles lagoon.
our plan is to be happy with smaller shallower lakes
with the traffic today and sunshine the track will be 2wd accesible by midweek so i reckon it will be a noisy place next weekend ,with quads roaring and big fn dogs crapping all over, empty bottles and **ty nappies in the bushes
MEANWHILE
today we trecked out with 1 canoe,1windsurfer,boogy boards, and a wee 31'schooner and a bunch of kites.
sadly the wind was just too light for the kites but everything else was great .
first challenge is to get in there

after that we simply rig up and go sailing

and more sailing

after 2 years in the shed ,fatty boom bah ,my ome made wide board got to float and sail. I do need to work on a better beginners sail . any suggestions for size would be most appreciated.
im pleased with the sheer lack of falls today. the beauty of this lake is being able to stand up and have a think about what you just did wrong

follow the golfields highway 15km north of kal then there is a track that turns leftto a railway crossing about 500m from the highway.
the gidgee roaster is on the east side of the road.
it probably doesnt even look like lakes from space
main lake is at 30d 36m25.76s S
121d25m15.16s E

rowles is 100kms away west of ora banda and has a stepped basin so if it really fills you have to share a 50m beach with all manner of undesirables.
next weekend we will check on king of the west, but you need the cockies permition for that one,and he might be getting the **s on with visitors by then
