upwind or downwind

please advise...

i understand that if you are downwind you fly the kite low and upwind high but my question is.. if you are screaming towards someone, who goes upwind and who goes downwind... please tell me before i crash into someone ... possibly you.

Starboard has right of way but the rules say you should pass by the right i.e. port side to port side, not "on the upwind side". This is the opposite of the road traffic convention so you are unwise to rely on it.

Incidentally if you have right of way it behoves you to hold your course. The other guy should take an avoiding course.

Kiting schools should cover this stuff. If you get a critical mass of sailors complying then the rules become reliable.
