posted this in kitesurfing but meant to put it here...
can anyone recommend weekend trips away from singapore? ie phuket or something? I'll be stuck there for 3 weeks and i've done singapore a few times (and have the weeknights to do stuff)

East coast Malaysia there is a small island named Tioman that has some great snorkeling and a small golf course and some wonderful scenery if that's your bag.
Anyway 20 odd years ago it did but maybe the mighty chainsaw may have sorted that out by now!!!
This goes eons back when lived in Singapore....
East Coast Island - Tioman
Used to go to Johor Bahru - bus / cab building - catch a share taxi up the east coast to Mersing(??) about a few hours in a cab - foot to the floor.
Barter fare to Tioman island in fishing boat and veg out...
They were building a small airstrip when I last went so probably can fly in from Singapore.
Numerous other trips - an age group thing - check in to backpackers find out who is doing what - popular trips etc.
Bound to be water sports clubs etc up the coast in Malaysia.
Penang was fun - not sure about Southern Thailand anymore - used to trek around Genting Highlands - Mid-Malaysia.
Go south into Indonesia - it is very close - heaps of tourist things to do there.
Basically Singapore is a great hub for flying off to surrounding countries.
Agree - without company Singapore is a bit of a drag.
Basically - get out and do it
