Too bogan for me. hahah I can appreciate a classic car, even if it is a Ford or a Holden, put Panos just do not do it for me. Would love one converted to 4WD though ![]()
Well put together little video though.
If spending all day Saturday and Sunday polishing your knob and cleaning your pipes is how you roll "goodluck"
I couldn't think of anything worse to waste time money on.![]()
But nice cars if your a fan.
A sticker [ circa 72'] on Buzz's blue Kombi Van side window said " don't be a meddlar with the peddlar", he thought if he had a sticker like that he wouldn't get hassled by the cops, nah he got busted
I kind of remember the Sandman cars from the 70s. There were some that had pretty amazing paint jobs I think. Like a big muscly bloke standing on a mound of skulls with a chick in one hand and a sword in the other.
Anyway Chryslers are much cooler than any Holden. I'm tempted to buy something like a VH Valiant. Must beat temptation and pay off the mortgage.
The key now is to pick what cars that are cheap right now will become collectables in the future. Collectables from the 60s and 70s are already expensive. Not sure about the 80s but perhaps its time to start looking for classics from the late 80s and early to mid 90s.
Thanks doggie. There are plenty of Ford panel vans around with the bread van doors ( ex Telstra etc) but the GL (up and down tailgate with head lining right through) is a rare bird these days and worth the big bucks.
I always thought the Cleveland V8s were a bad match in the XDs, Es and Fs. Too heavy and putting the cars out of balance.
Very tight fit too. Just ask someone who has changed the spark plugs in one. Engine has to be dead cold to start with.![]()
I had an XY Falcon 500 years ago that had a 302 Windsor with a C4 box and that was a really sweet little motor. Ford were using up surplus Canadian Windsor engines and gear boxes due to a less than expected demand for F 100s with V8 engines. I sold that car for $1,200 to a collector on the Sunshine Coast who had at least one of each model going back to the XMs
I seem to recall that Ford put out a fairly limited number of panel vans to compete with the Sand Man but what they called it escapes me.
Chrysler did not want to be left out of the race so they came out with the "Drifter".
See it here:- www.valiant.org/drifter.html
Standard sticker for the back of a panel van those days was "Don't Laugh, Your Daughter Might Be In Here" [}:)][}:)]![]()

Does tha mean you need to be a hot babe with a can of petrol and a bag of pot to get a lift? Looks like i'm walkin
It's a little embarressing now, but i used to get around in this...
I loved it though - and sold it for 150% of the price i bought it for!

Whilst I am a bit of a holden sandman follower - owning both a HJ and a HX (needing resto). I would love a Drifter or Sundowner so if you have one in the shed that you think is taking up valuable windsurfing gear space - feel free to call me.
- Saw possibly my very first XA van a few months ago in Perth driving around (yellow I think). I can't remember ever seeing one before.
80's collectable car - tough one?
My mate had a XD pano just like that but was metalic blue and windowless. Top car but it couldn't handle being parked at the beach all the time and rusted out big time. drove the poor thing into the ground.
My wife has a 78 V8 commodore. She loves it so I've had to really look after it, hasn't done a lot of miles. Been trying for a few years to get her out of it because its never been happy on unleaded fuel.
Last year I brought home a nearly brand new VY and told her to have a drive. cruising along she says
"why am I driving this"
I say "I'll buy it for you today"
she says "I dont want this, my cars nicer"
No sale. To be real honest I think she was right, the VB's a pretty sweet ride. Took a 100 series GXL landcruiser to get her out of it.
Now its occupying shed space. She's found out its one of the oldest V8 commodores on the planet. She's even managed to get it on vintage rego. Does that make anyone feel old, its 33 years old.
