Hey all,
Just got back from Warnambool and may I say what an amazing event the wave nationals were.
It was great to see surfers who are kiters getting out there and dominating the hollow waves that would have pounded your average kiter.
Massive respect to the South West Kite Crew,
Kitegrom
To re-iterate the sport took many steps in the right direction this weekend. Keahi winning strapless in the last heat was my personal highlight.
Stoked to hear you had a good time! But Keahi winning strapless isn't really "the sport" taking steps in the right direction... it's Keahi taking steps in the right direction
. Wasn't second and third won hooked in and strapped up?
Sounds like it was an awesome event, how were the bands?
Can i ask how tough was the actual competition?
Is there any footage of the winning heats?
and who knows apart from rowdy what the right direction is?
Results were:
Keahi 1st - unstrapped
Mike Walker 2nd - strapped
Dave Sorenson (aka slingshot dave) 3rd - strapped
Congratulations to all!
I also would be keen to know how it all unfolded.
Where do you log on to see any of the action, details, footage, photos. There are no feeder links on the registration website,
Paul aka doonas r kewl from kitelife will have footage, photos and all that.
add kitelife on facebook and check!
Yeah Mike handled some huge overhead beasts really well and made some critical moves on them, thats what got him through.
Keahi straight up dominated with his strapless backhand airs on some sizey waves aswell.
Conditions were pretty brutal for summer but we got wind and waves. More bikini girls could have been paid to be there but fair enough.
I will have the full round by round breakdown up on the website soon..
Cheers to all the guys and girls that made the trip and battled some cazy conditions... yesterday i got hailed on at 7am and then sunburnt in the arvo..
Check your messages people... regarding raffle B & D... Wakeskate and Snowboard..
If anyone knows the chick that one the face plant award... let me know... im not supprised she didnt go up on stage to collect her prize.. haha... funny.. but poor girl..
Cheers
One very disappointed non starter here ![]()
From all reports a MEGA job done by first time event organisers SWKK.
Hope everyone enjoyed the hospitality of my old hometown and total props to Mark & Jas and everyone who helped pull it off.
A whole heap bar raising is now on record for future AKSA National Titles.
What a great weekend. Huge Props to Mark and Jas for putting on such flawless organisational effort. They really didn't cut ANY corners - thanks to you guys and the SWKK.
I didn't get to see alot of the girls heats closely but i did see some solid chunky waves being ridden very respectably.
The music was awesome - loved the original sounds from the Tom Richardson Project and the headline Muff And Plutonic went off. Also DJ Ryza
The vibe at the comp was really great - next to no whinging and everyone enjoying the time together.
Thanks SWKK; Thanks all to Pauly, Gary and Joel on the camera; Thanks to AKSA, Cabrinha and all the other sponsors; Thanks to the competitors and well done everyone for handling the chunky waves.
best weekend ever! cant believe how good the vibe was, how tasty the beer was, how good the riding was, how tasty the beer was, how awesome the bands were, and how tasty the beer was.
Unbelievable event with the djs setting an awesome atmosphere on the sand and on the water. Then a cruisy sunday sesh on the grass to some insane tunes was the gravy on the potatoes for the whole event.
Mark and the boys went above and beyond all expectations to make it a comp that has definatly set a new standard for kiting comps.
will be talked about for years!
BIG props to Mark, Jase & the South West Kite Crew... Bloody excellent job guys!!
Super impressed!!
You guys welcomed us with open arms, cold beers, solid tunes, great stories, awesome atmosphere and an fing unforgettable event. SOLID!!!!!
To everyone else who rocked up, rocked out and threw down... cheers a bunch, great to see people ride on what they want, when they want, the way they like... sounds like the right direction to me.

Again thanks to jase and mark and all their Helpers for a great comp and fantastic entertainment ...loved catching up with everyone and meeting heaps of new crew on and off the water, and was good to see some more girls giving it a go.
Props to SWKK, the sponsors and riders. My mates and I had an absolute ball riding, but moreso spectating. I've only just made it back to work, a day and a half late. Sunday entertainment was too good to pass up, had to do a dash to the caravan park to find another nights accom. Shame not more stuck around for it.
thanks S Rowdy nearly didnt get there due to wrong kite size in the semi's, keahi saved the day passing me the 6m.
Mark, Jase and the SWKK - a huge effort to put the event together and it was really appreciated. Cheers to all the organisers, photographers and judges. Really enjoyed the setup and the tunes, especially kiting to some wicked beats in the heats. Awesome work Michel and to the other girls - great vibe in general.
Congrats Keahi, Tommy grom, Kevin and also to that 10yo grom who was more than holding his own on some solid set waves.![]()
Another big thanks to Mark, Jason and the guys from SWKK. They put on a great show and it was great to see another good wave nationals this year.
There was definitely some guys ripping and it was great to see the standard this year. Anyway, hope everyone else had a great time and a big thanks to everyone involved in this event.
Cheers,
Keahi
Was by far the best kite event i've been to![]()
Did anyone see that crazy guy fully ripping the surf to shreds on a boogie board on the satday was by far the best display of the sport anyone has ever seen by far!![]()
