Well the world did not end on May 21st as predicted by Rapture Preacher Harold Camping. And now our own Australian prophet Reflex Films may also been proved wrong.
Gennies are not the end of the world at 3 Mile Camp on Gnaraloo station as it is proposed to ban them from end of the September 2011 school holidays. This is a step to try to maintain 3 Mile Camp as a WILDERNESS TOURISM destination so that generations to come can still get away from the all encompassing commercialism and consumerism
Sentiment in the camp is mixed. Some would like to ban them immediately but there has to be a transiton period too allows people to make alternative arrangements. Others are saying they won't come back if they cannot use their generator.
If generators are banned it is proposed to increase the availability of plug spots at the shop where you can plug in an Engle fridge
How will they watch "The farmer wants a wife" at Gnaraloo without a Genny?
They obviously didn't think this through then did they?
good idea,
Is it to be a total ban,
There are some pretty quiet generators, I have the honda EU2000i Camo and is uper quite, I could probably put in a compartment in troppy and you would not hear it.
Maybe a DB limit would be something to consider,
Lots of extra traffic at shop, very clever
bussiness is bussnes I guess whats a greater commercialism of a shop or self sufficient people using a gererator
I dont have the answer
GBoss i appluad your intentions.
You say you are doing this for customers who are seeking a WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE. I think you will find that people come to Gnaraloo station and the Bluff to stay because they are the only 2 locations that i know of where you can legally camp in a great stretch of coastline. If you are really chasing a WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE then you would go BUSH!!!.
I think you will find alot of travellers want a certain amount of "outdoor living" with a degree of comfort depending on their age etc.
Generators are noisy and do detract from enjoying the peace of being away from civilization. My suggestion would be to limit their use to an area and time away from the main camping area. My flame suit is engaged.
Definitely gets the thumbs up from me GBoss. ![]()
Even though I have taken one of the quiet little Honda EU1000 generators the last couple of times, I am more than happy to do without it.
rules rules rules ![]()
Everything comes down to money, if Gboss gets more people to hang around shop he'll make more money, are new proposed power outlets going to have coin slots and meters ![]()
most people are polite and aproachable
sort it out amost yourselfs, or put aside some time to read the rules before you set up sounds like this is the first of many more,
Time to explore differnt spots ![]()

GBOSS how about installing solar panels on each camp site that people can plug into??? that would enhance 3 mile camp as a WILDNERNESS TOURISM DESTINATION cut out the unwanted noise and pollution and provide power.
I'm naive enough to think it's not all about Money but probably the amount of complaints about the noise from generators.
If it is about noise then what will be banned next???
From my experiences in camping grounds i have found 70% of people pretty damn respectful. In the south of WA i have had no problems; up north last year during school holidays 30% of noise came from:
1. Kids (they are allowed to make noise)
2. Feral Parents (Not Good; Need Self Control)
3. Feral Backpackers with no respect
(Running Naked around campsite; Funny. Humping next to my tent;
Wrong) Should of Thumped them.
Gboss what's driving this ban?? More Rules=Less Freedom which is not GOOD!!!
I love it when people get on a forum and complain that businesses are about making money ?????? (Der!) and then torch the retailers, G station or who ever.
The fact that you think that way is why you will never have any money, clown; Unless a rich uncle dies or your lotto numbers come in.
Why should some body else pay to make your holiday/recreational choices better. If you don't like it don't buy or don't go.
Get a job, that's what they are for. Or better still start your own business and see what life is like on the other side.
Wal629 Gnaraloo will have powered sites; its only a matter of time. If you ban generators there will be enough visitors without alternative means of power who will complain or go elsewhere.
Why not setup a solar farm away from the campsite and offer natural energy??
For the record Wal im not a cheap skate nor a Genie or solar panel owner.
After spending Easter at 3 Mile I applaud your decision G-Boss.
The noise (especially after dark) of them really does ruin what is a fantastic experience at Gnaraloo. I know some people with gennies were spoken to by other campers while I was there and it causes friction between people when there need not be any.
I'm not sure why people have to have them anyway??
The smallest Honda is $1400. For that you can get a couple of 150Ah batteries and 2 X 80W panels with regs and never have to pay for fuel again!!!
sorry weta I thought it was funny straight up.
Next time if you can't beat them join them. Maybe adding an extra foot into the fun might sober them up![]()
As for wind well it couldn't be any worse than it is now I have even had to resort to fishing![]()
It would be great if gnarloo was solar powered but who will pay for it and if it's cloudy and they have no power how many will accept that.
I know this is no where like 3 mile (and I have stayed there and at the bluff) but
I stayed at coral bay for a night...just to say hi to a friend. I couldn't sleep because the Tv next door was blaring and everyone had a generator.
Ended up dragging myself inbetween two 4Wd's with my swag just so I could see the stars in peace.
I think it's disgusting how many people can't cope without power. We are doomed
Well done G boss,
Ive got a small solar powered battery system on the caravan that is inexpensive and teamed with LEDs provides all the light you could need and also can power cameras and lap tops. Much and all as Gnaraloo is about showing kids nature it is good to keep them entertained in the caravan during peak UV hours with computer games and DVDs.
