Hi guys, Ive been reading through all the board leash debates on here and I get it, having a lash is a bad idea. I know that all you kiteboarding purists out there will be rolling your eyes already and I dont blame you, nothing is worse than an inpatient newbie trying to get going by taking shortcuts. Also, I'm not trying to take anything away from learning to upwind body drag because i recognise that its definitely an important skill to have. Anyways, I have been kiteboarding in a small bay that often gets an offshore wind that blows to the other side of the bay. Ofcorse, being a newbie, i shouldnt be doing this and the inevitable happened and i lost a board. Anyways, now that i have my board back, I thought of this idea of attaching 2 super short leashes. One from each ankle to the footstrap that the respective foot goes into. I was thinking that as long as they are really really short, there was no real way for the board to hit you in the head or body. Anyway, i know that i should learn to bodydrag better and all that but i was wondering what you guys thought of this idea. Good wind...
yes they are called bindings and not suitable for beginners.
Offshore winds, lose your board, you're gonna lose a lot more than that!!!
Dude, you can get into all sorts of trouble in a crosshore or side-shore wind, without having your board attached to you, in a half-second as a beginner. Why would you want to increase the odds of seriously f@#$ing yourself up?
yep sounds great ...what about the bit when it is flapping about 2 inches in front of your shinns and flying feet first into the water thats when you will find out how good of an idea you had, and will be able to stay at home for months on end working on your marketing plan while your legs mend
dude stupid idea.
what happens if you gotta stand up in chest/neck deep water to relaunch your kite that you've smashed into the piss and you can't stand up cos you got a board attached by 2 short leashes to each ankle.
either learn to body drag ,never go out in offshore wind, if you have to use a leash ,use a reel one and where it attaches to your board tie a thin piece of cord/string that will break under a heafty load like a fuse, and wear a helmet.
You are definately going to snap all the small delicate bones in your feet which take years to heal and inhibit your ability to do one important thing: walk
Bad idea! But funny imagining you doing it!!
But thanks for sharing / asking first before you did it!!!
Don't take the comments and red thumbs too personally - keep posting / better to ask before you try something new and get hurt!![]()
Awesome idea...Patent it so all the big names have to come to you and pay to copy.
Or there's this other option on the market called a reel leash, I'm not recommending it, but I've see dudes with one accompanied by impact vests, helmet, rambo knife and poo stance. BTW always seem to be flying cabrinah's WTF why is that, anyone else notice this phenomina.[}:)]
Did anyone else also notice that at every spot you go to there is always the token fat guy with a cabrinha crossbow?
Board leash is not recommended by any kiter but if you are serious about using one at least use the one that has been designed for kite surfing.
I'm using a reel leash and I'm happy with it.
Note: During the winter my board hits me in the head but;
1) I had a helmet on so nothing happened
2) I was getting washed away in the waves so my board would have hit me even without the leash.
3) It is dangerous so only use it only if you HAVE TO.
Rheel leash plus a helmet will cost you what $120?
You should spend this on 3 cartons of beer which can be broken up into 6 packs.
This will allow you to thank people 12 times for rescuing your board for you.
By the time the 6 packs run out, you should be able to bodydrag upwind and stop giving away precious beer.
Also, if you lose your board, and noone returns it, at least you can get really maggot!
Not a great idea mate.
Fellas - don't bag the bugger. At least he asked for feedback instead of just going and doing it.
We need a forum called 'The rifle range' for some of the trolls and flammo dudes around here.![]()
I use a reel, attached with three zip ties. Had only one big stack with it where the board did a dive and acted as a water anchor, the reel broke away without any issue, didn't even feel it go. Apart from that one, it saves so much effort in big swell trying to find a floating board. I say go for it and ignore the smartarses here . With the breakaway attachment here it is safe and works very very well. Get you back on the board with no time wasting which will get you up and out of the danger zone, thus minimising inconvenience to other kiters in the area.
